Exposure to a sublethal concentration of imidacloprid and the side effects on target and nontarget organs of Apis mellifera (Hymenoptera, Apidae).

TL;DR: Altered midgut cells of bees and changes in the distribution of proteins involved in important biological processes in the brain were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy to investigate the sublethal effects of imidacloprid to the brain, the target organ, and the midGut, responsible for the digestion/absorption of food.
Susceptibility of Melipona scutellaris Latreille, 1811 (Hymenoptera: Apidae) worker bees to Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill.

TL;DR: Assessment of susceptibility of Melipona scutellaris bees to the isolate of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana can make recommendations to minimize the impact, contributing to maintenance of naturalpopulations of these insects.

Pesticides affect pollinator abundance and productivity of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)
TL;DR: The abundance of floral visitors, the mass of fruits, and quantity of oil in the seeds were significantly lower after treatment with the pesticide, thus evidencing its negative effect on the sunflower productivity.

TL;DR: Tropical crops pollinated primarily by social bees may be most susceptible to pollination failure from habitat loss, and the general relationship between pollination services and distance from natural or semi-natural habitats is estimated.
Native bees provide insurance against ongoing honey bee losses
TL;DR: It is predicted that in the region native bees will buffer potential declines in agricultural production because of honey bee losses, and empirical total pollen deposition at flowers was strongly, significantly correlated with native bee visitation but not with honey bee visitation.

Sublethal Effects of Neurotoxic Insecticides on Insect Behavior
TL;DR: Insecticides are the cornerstones upon which pest management practices are based, and are likely to remain so as long as effective and inexpensivechemicals are available.

Pollinators as bioindicators of the state of the environment: species, activity and diversity
TL;DR: Honeybees and pollination guildes offer new means of assessing ecosystemic health because the species diversity and abundance relationship is changed from the log-normal standard expected from ecological principles and niche theory.

TL;DR: The Neotropics bee fauna is very rich with 5000 recognised species, including 33 genera (391 species) of Meliponini, but it is estimated to be at least three fold greater in species richness.
