Palaeoecology of the Miocene fauna from Paşalar, Turkey
TL;DR: In this article, the Pasalar Miocene sediments indicate rapid deposition from sources close to the fossil site and the high diversity of mammalian species (58 species known) is sufficient to suggest some form of wooded habitat in a tropical or sub-tropical seasonal climate.

A two-step nearest neighbors algorithm using satellite imagery for predicting forest structure within species composition classes
TL;DR: In this article, a two-step algorithm is proposed in which the class of a relevant categorical variable such as land cover is predicted in the first step, and continuous variables such as volume are predicted by the second step subject to the constraint that all nearest neighbors must come from the predicted class of the categorical variables.

Metagenomic systems biology and metabolic modeling of the human microbiome: From species composition to community assembly rules
Roie Levy,Elhanan Borenstein +1 more
TL;DR: Comparing predicted interactions with species composition data revealed that the assembly of the human microbiome is dominated at the community level by habitat filtering and it was demonstrated that this habitat filtering cannot be accounted for by known host phenotypes or by the metabolic versatility of the various species.

The relationship between sit and wait foraging strategy and dispersal in the desert scorpion, Scorpio maurus palmatus.
Moshe Shachak,Sol Brand +1 more
TL;DR: It seems that the S. maurus palmatus biological relationship model can be applied, with modifications, to a wide spectrum of desert burrowing animals and suggest that many other burrowing desert animals may face the problem of unpredictability of biological resources.

Research perspectives and the anomalous status of modern ecology
TL;DR: It is argued that the perception of immaturity in ecologists results primarily from the fact that historically ecologists have based their work upon two very different approaches to research.
