Abstract: A document sorting process utilizes existing or natural incoming sequences of documents each of which includes a sort key code thereon and which are sequentially arranged in accordance with a trace, locate and retrieve number (TLR). The documents are machine-sorted by the sort key code in numerical sequence and the corresponding trace, locate and retrieve number is checked for ascending or descending order. Whenever the trace, locate and retrieve number is seen in ascending order, the created sort number remains the same, whereas on a descending record the sort number is incremented by one digit. A reduction in the number of sort numbers reduces the passes required for physically sorting the documents.

Method and apparatus for organizing scanned images
Derrill L. Sturgeon,John C. Barker,Donald Michael Brown +2 more
- 30 Jul 2002
TL;DR: In this article, a system is provided for scanning batch-type documents containing indicia on either a single side or on two sides of each document sheet, where misfeeds through a scanning device are identified by comparison of an anticipated number of pages with an actual number of scanned pages.

Sorting method and apparatus
Peter B. Mccauley
- 23 Oct 1985
TL;DR: In this article, a method for sorting computer data records in a minimum amount of time is described, where records are sorted according to their keys, typically from the most significant digit, or character to the least significant.

Vector processor for merging vector elements in ascending order merging operation or descending order merging operation
Keiji Kojima
- 11 Apr 1988
TL;DR: In this paper, a break is detected between elements arranged in ascending order and descending order, and the merging of the vector elements subsequently read is effected for either ascending order elements or descending order elements depending upon the detected result.

Hardware median filter
Dennis J. Delman
- 29 Jun 1982
TL;DR: In this paper, a hardware median filter is coupled to a set of line buffers to define a segment or window within the overall image, and the median values are extracted from each successive section in order to derive an output word representing the median value of all the pixels in the window.

Information-arranging device
Toshio Kashio
- 23 Jan 1975
TL;DR: In this paper, the key words of every two records read out from first and second memories are compared in respect of numerical largeness or value by a comparing circuit to determine the sequential order of said key words.

Method and means for searching a compressed index
William A Clark,Kent A Salmond,Thomas S Stafford +2 more
- 03 Jan 1969
TL;DR: In this paper, an equal counter is used during the search to represent which byte (called A-byte) of the search argument (SA) is being searched for, and the counter is initially set to reflect this beginning and it is incremented each time the Abyte compares equal with one of the key bytes (called K byte) in a current CK being searched.

Sorter with overlap operation
Judit K. Florence
- 04 Apr 1977
TL;DR: In this paper, a double buffer overlap operation was proposed to allow updating of the dependent lists in a series of sequential dependent input lists, where an initial input list is clocked through a first sort stack and written into a first buffer as Q groups of P numbers each.

Apparatus for sorting of recorded digital data
Gerhard Dirks
- 23 Oct 1965
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present schematically a sorter in which, at each stage, data items are read from tapes 101-103 and written on to tapes 104-106, the output tapes from one stage being utilised as input tapes for the next.

Patent
Method and arrangement for sorting record units having keyfield bits arranged in descending order of significance without comparator
TL;DR: In this article, the record unit addresses are separated into first and second address groups, comprising all addresses corresponding, respectively, to record units having a most significant keyfield bit of 0 and 1.
