Abstract: Studies investigating the influence of the learner’s focus of attention, induced by instructions or feedback, on motor skill learning are reviewed. In general, directing performers’ attention to the effects of their movements (external focus of attention) appears to be more beneficial than directing their attention to their own movements (internal focus of attention). Preliminary evidence is presented indicating that an internal attentional focus constrains the motor system by interfering with natural control processes, whereas an external focus seems to allow automatic control processes to regulate the movements. Support for the view that actions are controlled by their anticipated effects comes from research demonstrating functional variability in motor control, as well as the benefits of purposeful activity in occupational therapy. We explain these results in terms of the ideomotor principle of human actions (James, 1890) and its more modern derivatives (Hommel, 1996; Prinz, 1990, 1997).

Accurate Vigilance Detection During Gait by Using Movement Artifact Removal
TL;DR: Results reveal the vigilance detection during walking has a comparable performance to the stationary state when the motion artifacts are estimated and removed and explored motion artifact removal and applied machine learning methods.
The Erotetic Theory of Attention: Questions, Focus and Distraction
TL;DR: The erotetic theory of attention as mentioned in this paper proposes an integrated account of attention in cognitive control and of attentional focus in perception, which opens new avenues in theorizing about the relationship between attention, representational content, phenomenal character, and practical reason.
Los Beneficios de las Instrucciones Dirigidas Externamente para la Enseñanza de la Técnica y la Táctica

Learning spinal manipulation: a comparison of two teaching models.
TL;DR: The results of the present study confirm the importance of chiropractic technique curriculum and perhaps gender in spinal manipulation skill learning and stresses the important of integrating spinal manipulation skills practice early in training to maximize the number and the quality of significant learner-instructor interactions.
Validating attentive locomotion training using interactive treadmill: an fNIRS study
TL;DR: ITM-based locomotion training would be a promising solution to the limitations of existing treadmill-based trainings currently used to improve gait function recovery, and the walking speed on the ITM also affected the level of attention.

Abstract: Arguably the greatest single work in the history of psychology. James's analyses of habit, the nature of emotion, the phenomenology of attention, the stream of thought, the perception of space, and the multiplicity of the consciousness of self are still widely cited and incorporated into contemporary theoretical accounts of these phenomena.

The Theory of Event Coding (TEC): a framework for perception and action planning.
TL;DR: A new framework for a more adequate theoretical treatment of perception and action planning is proposed, in which perceptual contents and action plans are coded in a common representational medium by feature codes with distal reference, showing that the main assumptions are well supported by the data.
