Digenean species diversity in teleost fish from a nature reserve off Corsica, France (Western Mediterranean), and a comparison with other Mediterranean regions
TL;DR: A more detailed analysis of the diversity of these parasites in sparid fishes indicates that the digenean diversity off Corsica is far greater than that in other parts of the Mediterranean.

Abstract: Data on the digenean parasites of 2238 teleosts from the Scandola Nature Reserve off Corsica are presented. These represent the largest general survey of digenean parasites attempted in the Mediter...

SYNTHESIS Fishing out marine parasites? Impacts of fishing on rates of parasitism in the ocean
Chelsea L. Wood,D Kevin,Fiorenza Micheli +2 more
- 01 Jan 2010
TL;DR: There has been growing recognition in recent years that parasites are a critical part of biodiversity and that their loss could substantially alter ecosystem function, and such a loss may be among the last major ecological effects of industrial fishing to be recognized by scientists.

Descriptions of some unusual digeneans from Boops boops L. (Sparidae) and a complete checklist of its metazoan parasites.
Ana Pérez-del Olmo,Mercedes Fernández,David I. Gibson,Juan Antonio Raga,Aneta Kostadinova,Aneta Kostadinova +5 more
TL;DR: B. boops is a new host for 11 metazoan parasites (six digeneans, three acanthocephalans, one copepod and one isopod) recovered in this study.

Marine protected areas facilitate parasite populations among four fished host species of central Chile
Chelsea L. Wood,Fiorenza Micheli,Miriam Fernández,Stefan Gelcich,Juan Carlos Castilla,Juan Carvajal +5 more
TL;DR: The data indicate that fishing can drive declines in parasite abundance at the parasite population level by reducing the availability of habitat and resources for parasites, but less commonly affects the abundance of parasites at the infrapopulation level (within individual hosts).

Molecular and morphological identification of larval opecoelids (Digenea: Opecoelidae) parasitising prosobranch snails in a Western Mediterranean lagoon.
TL;DR: The life-cycle of Macvicaria obovata is elucidated and the first detailed morphological descriptions of the intramolluscan larval stages of the two opecoelid species as well as partial 28S rDNA sequences to aid future studies on systematic relationships within the OPEcoelidae are provided.

Cryptic speciation among intestinal parasites (Trematoda: Digenea) infecting sympatric host fishes (Sparidae)
TL;DR: Diet analyses available for the fish hosts were used to assess the degree of overlap in the use of food among the three species and showed that the distribution of parasites in Diplodus hosts is not a consequence of coevolutionary interactions.
