Abstract: BACKGROUND:Medication regimen attributes, such as the number of drugs, dosage frequency, administration instructions, and the prescribed dosage forms, have been shown to influence patient outcomes. No single tool for quantifying the complexity of general medication regimens has been published in the medical literature.OBJECTIVE:To develop and validate a tool to quantify the complexity of prescribed medication regimens.METHODS:Literature findings and the expertise of the authors were used for developing the tool. Eight pharmacy researchers helped in establishing the tool's face and content validity. The new tool was tested on 134 medication regimens from patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Six regimens with a spread of scores on the tool were presented to a 5–member expert panel that subjectively ranked these regimens to confirm the tool's criterion-related validity. The relationships between scores on the tool and various independent variables were tested to judge the t...

Polypharmacy, potentially inappropriate prescribing and medication complexity in Turkish older patients in the community pharmacy setting.
TL;DR: More than half of the Turkish older patients had polypharmacy and the rate of PIP was high, which was associated with advanced age, higher number of chronic diseases, polyphARMacy, and more complex medication regimens.
Multiple criteria decision analysis for assessing the value of new medical technologies: researching, developing and applying a new value framework for the purpose of health technology assessment
Aris Nikolaos Angelis
- 01 Aug 2017
TL;DR: The research hypothesis is that Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) can provide a methodological option for the evaluation of new medicines in the context of Health Technology Assessment (HTA), to support decision-making and contribute to more efficient resource allocation.
Factors Associated with Hyperpolypharmacy and Complex Medication Regimens in Kidney Transplant Recipients
Armin Atić,Jasmina Matijašević Škerlj,Ivana Jurič,Lea Katalinić,Vesna Furić Čunko,Marina Kljajić,Zoran Sabljić,Bojan Jelaković,Nikolina Bašić‐Jukić +8 more
TL;DR: Factors associated with hyperpolypharmacy and complex medication regimens in kidney transplant recipients are age and graft function.
Exploring Medication Adherence Amongst Australian Adults Using an Extended Theory of Planned Behaviour
TL;DR: The findings of this study show partial support for the predictive ability of the theory of planned behaviour in predicting intentions and medication adherence and adds to the growing literature showing the importance of perceived behavioural control in health behaviours.
