Deformation of the Earth by surface loads
1.7K
TL;DR: In this article, the static deformation of an elastic half-space by surface pressure is reviewed and a brief mention is made of methods for solving the problem when the medium is plane-strategized, but the major emphasis is on the solution for spherical, radially stratified, gravitating earth models.

Abstract: The static deformation of an elastic half-space by surface pressure is reviewed. A brief mention is made of methods for solving the problem when the medium is plane stratified, but the major emphasis is on the solution for spherical, radially stratified, gravitating earth models. Love-number calculations are outlined, and from the Love numbers, Green's functions are formed for the surface mass-load boundary-value problem. Tables of mass-load Green's functions, computed for realistic earth models, are given, so that the displacements, tilts, accelerations, and strains at the earth's surface caused by any static load can be found by evaluating a convolution integral over the loaded region.

The normal modes of a uniform, compressible Maxwell half-space
Detlef Wolf
- 01 Jan 1985
TL;DR: In this paper, the analytical solution for the load-induced deformation of a uniform, compressible, hydrostatically pre-stressed elastic half-space is derived, and the solution is correct to first order in the quantity e, which is inversely proportional to the wave number k of the deformation, usually e is very small compared with unity for Earth deformations on a scale amenable to the halfspace approximation.
The imprints of contemporary mass redistribution on local sea level and vertical land motion observations
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of solid-Earth deformation due to contemporary mass redistribution and GIA on VLM trends derived from permanent Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) stations is analyzed.

Evidence of daily hydrological loading in GPS time series over Europe
TL;DR: In this article, a high-resolution (12.5 km) hydrological model was proposed to assimilate the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) data into the GPS height time series.

Surface Mass Variations from GPS and GRACE/GFO: A Case Study in Southwest China
TL;DR: The results showed that the one-year gap between the GRACE and GFO missions can be bridged by scaled GPS-derived mass change time series in the four studied regions, especially in the YNP and MRB regions (with relatively dense distributions of GPS stations).
