Deformation of the Earth by surface loads
1.7K
TL;DR: In this article, the static deformation of an elastic half-space by surface pressure is reviewed and a brief mention is made of methods for solving the problem when the medium is plane-strategized, but the major emphasis is on the solution for spherical, radially stratified, gravitating earth models.

Abstract: The static deformation of an elastic half-space by surface pressure is reviewed. A brief mention is made of methods for solving the problem when the medium is plane stratified, but the major emphasis is on the solution for spherical, radially stratified, gravitating earth models. Love-number calculations are outlined, and from the Love numbers, Green's functions are formed for the surface mass-load boundary-value problem. Tables of mass-load Green's functions, computed for realistic earth models, are given, so that the displacements, tilts, accelerations, and strains at the earth's surface caused by any static load can be found by evaluating a convolution integral over the loaded region.

Geocentre motion from the DORIS space system and laser data to the Lageos satellites: comparison with surface loading data
TL;DR: In this article, the amplitude and phase of the space-geodesy derived annual cycle for each coordinate are further compared to estimates based on surface mass redistribution at the Earth surface derived from various climatic data sources: surface pressure, soil moisture, snow depth and ocean mass variations.
Some critical factors for engineering and environmental microgravity investigations
N Debeglia,F Dupont +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the factors likely to limit measurement quality and how to make improvements and showed that the accuracy of corrected gravity measurements is mainly limited by inadequate corrections of tidal effects and by a poor estimation of ocean loading effects.

Different tidal torques on a planet with a dense atmosphere and consequences to the spin dynamics
TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the importance of determining the exact transfer mechanism of angular momentum from the atmosphere to the surface of a planet, and show that alternative atmospheric tides may play an important role if this transfer rate is not very effective, although this does not seem to be the case on Earth or Venus.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the Ny-Alesund very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) data over the period 1994 August to 2004 May, and obtained secular displacement rates relative to a NNR-NUVEL-1A reference frame.
