Abstract: An in-depth discussion of the major decisions in production planning, scheduling, and inventory management faced by organizations, both private and public. Strategic and operational issues are covered, as well as the latest systems used to make decisions, including Just-in-Time Manufacturing, KANBAN, Distribution Requirements Planning, and PUSH Control. A series of cases focusing on one organization complement the text's discussion, and several problem sets are also included. An extensive list of references allows the advanced student to pursue topics of interest in more detail.

Optimal production stopping and restarting times for an EOQ model with deteriorating items
Hong Yan,T.C.E. Cheng +1 more
TL;DR: A general model in which the production rate, the product demand rate, and the item deterioration rate are all considered as functions of time is described, to discuss the optimal production stopping and restarting times which minimise the total relevant cost per unit time.

Integrated production and quality model under various preventive maintenance policies
Mohamed Ben-Daya,M. Makhdoum +1 more
TL;DR: The proposed model reduces the shift rate of the system to the out-of-control state proportional to the PM level, and determines the EPQ, the optimal design of the control chart and the optimal preventive maintenance level.

An optimal procurement policy for items with an inventory level-dependent demand rate and fixed lifetime
Hark Hwang,Kyu Hun Hahn +1 more
TL;DR: This paper investigates an optimal procurement policy for items with an inventory level-dependent demand rate and fixed lifetime, and a mathematical model and solution methodology were developed.

Effects of inventory policy on supply chain performance: A simulation study of critical decision parameters
TL;DR: Out of the four inventory policies examined, the economic order quantity rule is found to be the best for the retailers and the entire supply chain, but periodic order quantity and Silver-Meal provide the best performance for the supplier.
