Controlling for endogeneity with instrumental variables in strategic management research
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a framework to understand how endogeneity arises and how to control for it with instrumental variables to estimate causal relations with observational data, using the Heckman two-step procedure and the STATA commands of the exposed tests and methods.

Abstract: This article offers a framework to understand how endogeneity arises and how to control for it with instrumental variables to estimate causal relations with observational data. It builds on the state-of-the-art research in applied and theoretical econometrics to highlight the importance of endogeneity and review the methods that can be used to address it with instrumental variables. The article also discusses when the Heckman two-step procedure can be used, as well as the tests, methods and assumptions that researchers should check when using instrumental variables. To ease implementation of the instrumental variables techniques, the author offers the STATA commands of the exposed tests and methods. Further, an empirical example is provided along with the utilized STATA codes. In the end, this article serves as a`toolkit' allowing scholars not only to understand whether endogeneity is present in their empirical setting, but also to assess the empirical validity of their work when using instrumental variables.

The relationship between organizational interdependence and additionality obtained from innovation ecosystem participation
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assess the behavioral and output additionality obtained by innovation ecosystem participants and find a significantly positive relationship between organizational interdependence and output addality, and find that this relationship is mediated by behavioral additionality.

How Entrepreneurs Leverage Institutional Intermediaries in Emerging Economies to Acquire Public Resources
TL;DR: Li et al. as mentioned in this paper compared science park and non-science park firms in Beijing and across China, distinguishing which entrepreneurs benefit from certification v. capability-building through the introduction of two new constructs: skill adequacy and context relevance.

Institutional Environment and IPO Strategy: A Study of ChiNext in China.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate how entrepreneurs respond to immature regulatory environments in order to be listed on stock markets in countries with an emerging economy, and they find that institutional factors can have different impacts on the behavior of participants in emerging markets than in developed markets.
Does Debt Overhang Impound Market Discipline: A Study of Bank Risk-taking Using a Natural Experiment
Soumik Bhusan,Prasenjit Chakrabarti +1 more
TL;DR: This study examines the impact of divergence disclosures on bank risk-taking behavior in India, exploiting a natural experiment. Results show that disclosures amplify risk-taking, contradicting the "market discipline" theory and supporting the "debt overhang" hypothesis.

TL;DR: In this article, the generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator optimally exploits all the linear moment restrictions that follow from the assumption of no serial correlation in the errors, in an equation which contains individual effects, lagged dependent variables and no strictly exogenous variables.

Sample Selection Bias as a Specification Error
TL;DR: In this article, the bias that results from using non-randomly selected samples to estimate behavioral relationships as an ordinary specification error or "omitted variables" bias is discussed, and the asymptotic distribution of the estimator is derived.

A Heteroskedasticity-Consistent Covariance Matrix Estimator and a Direct Test for Heteroskedasticity
TL;DR: In this article, a parameter covariance matrix estimator which is consistent even when the disturbances of a linear regression model are heteroskedastic is presented, which does not depend on a formal model of the structure of the heteroSkewedness.

Separation of ownership and control
Eugene F. Fama,Michael C. Jensen +1 more
TL;DR: The authors argue that the separation of decision and risk-bearing functions observed in large corporations is common to other organizations such as large professional partnerships, financial mutuals, and nonprofits. But they do not consider the role of decision agents in these organizations.
