Abstract: We describe the Constraint Object Data Model (CODM), which enhances an object-based data model with existential constraints to naturally represent partially specied information. We present the Constraint Object Query Language (COQL), a declarative, rule-based, language that can be used to infer relationships about and monotoni-cally reene information represented in the CODM. COQL has a model-theoretic and a xpoint semantics based on the notions of constraint entailment and \proofs in all possible worlds". We also provide a novel polynomial-time algorithm for quantier elimination for set-order constraints , a restricted class of set constraints that uses 2 and .

Strategic directions in constraint programming
TL;DR: Constraints arise naturally in most areas of human endeavor and are the natural medium of expression for formalizing regularities that underlie the computational and (natural or designed) physical worlds and their mathematical abstractions.
A database approach for modeling and querying video data
TL;DR: This paper develops a data model and a rule-based query language for video content-based indexing and retrieval designed around the object and constraint paradigms.

The LyriC language: querying constraint objects
Alexander Brodsky,Yoram Kornatzky +1 more
- 22 May 1995
TL;DR: The proposed LyriC language is designed to provide a uniform and flexible framework for diverse application realms such as constraint-based design in two-, three-dimensional space, large-scale optimization and analysis, based mostly on linear programming techniques, and spatial and geographic databases.

Constraint Databases: A Survey
Peter Z. Revesz
- 01 Jan 1998
TL;DR: The state of the art in constraint databases is surveyed, a new algebra for databases with integer order constraints is described and a complexity analysis of evaluating queries in this algebra is described.

The CCUBE constraint object-oriented database system
TL;DR: The CCUBE constraint calculus guarantees polynomial time data complexity, and is tightly integrated with the monoid comprehensions to allow deeply interleaved global optimization.

Object identity as a query-language primitive
Serge Abiteboul,Paris C. Kanellakis +1 more
- 01 Jan 1992
TL;DR: An object-based data model, whose structural part generalizes most of the known complex-object data models: cyclicity is allowed in both its schemas and instances and the model can be extended to incorporate type inheritance without changes to IQL.

Abstract: Magic Templates: A Spellbinding Approach to Logic Programs
Raghu Ramakrishnan
- 01 Jan 1988
TL;DR: A bottom-up query-evaluation scheme in which facts of relations are allowed to have nonground terms, and any argument containing a function symbol or a variable that appears more than once in the argument list is regarded as “bound”.

The design and implementation of Kaleidoscope'90-A constraint imperative programming language
Bjørn N. Freeman-Benson,A. Borning +1 more

TL;DR: A scheme for languages that integrate specific features from these two paradigms into a new framework: constraint imperative programming, which adopts explicit control flow, state, and assignment from the imperative paradigm.

Compiling query constraints
Peter J. Stuckey,Sundararajarao Sudarshan +1 more
- 01 Jan 1994
TL;DR: This work presents a general technique to push query constraints into database views and (constraint) logic programs, which can be executed on systems, such as database query evaluation systems, that do not handle full constraint solving.
