TL;DR: This paper describes another solution for CA-STB interoperability, based on downloading interoperable software into the STB, that provides full CA- STBs interoperability and can be introduced relatively easily into future STBs and will require only minimal changes in current CA systems.

Abstract: Interoperability between conditional access (CA) systems and set-top boxes (STB)-CA-STB interoperability-has been an issue from the very beginning of receiver development for digital pay-TV. Interoperability ensures that any service can be received on any (interoperable) STB. The common interface solutions SimulCrypt and MultiCrypt are now standardized. However, these solutions have a number of disadvantages, including the need for service providers to agree on using each other's system, increased bandwidth usage, inflexibility, cost, and limited functionality. This paper describes another solution for CA-STB interoperability, based on downloading interoperable software into the STB. It provides full CA-STB interoperability. Furthermore, it can be introduced relatively easily into future STBs and will require only minimal changes in current CA systems.

System and Method for Generating a Set Top Box Code Download Step Sequence
Joshua A. Seiden
- 14 Sep 2012
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for generating a set top box (STB) code download step sequence includes the steps of retrieving a code object from a Software Download Generator (SDG) memory in response to an instruction signal, generating at least one of a control message and a decoder conditional command using a SDG processor, accessing information in a channel map in the SDG memory, combining the at least message and decoder code object with the code object to generate the STB code download steps sequence for a target STB, transmitting the at- least one STB codes download

Key distribution based on hierarchical access control for conditional access system in DTV broadcast
TL;DR: The proposed key distribution scheme can greatly reduce the encrypting computation and acquire higher efficiency and security, and is more flexible in processing joining and leaving of subscriber, which is very important for service provider to manage the subscriber.

A secure conditional access system using digital signature and encryption
A. Noore
- 17 Jun 2003
TL;DR: A new conditional access system architecture that uses XML digital signature and encryption to securely distribute audio, video, image, and data on the Web and supports payment transactions in a secure environment is proposed.

Secure communication between set-top box and smart card in DTV broadcasting
TL;DR: This paper proposes a key exchange protocol for STB and smart card based on Schnorr's digital signature protocol and one-way hash function that is dynamic, secure, mutual authenticated and lower computation.

Methods and apparatuses for secondary conditional access server
Luc Vantalon,Paolo Siccardo +1 more
- 07 Dec 2004
TL;DR: Conditional access to media content of primary security systems on a secondary networked environment as mentioned in this paper is used to provide services to secondary CA clients (e.g., a bridge, a renderer, a storage, or their different combinations) through network connections.
