Measurement of light within thin plant tissues with fiber optic microprobes
TL;DR: Vogelmann et al. as discussed by the authors measured light within thin plant tissues with fiber optic microprobes and found that different plant tissues have different light scattering characteristics. But they did not examine the optical properties of different cell layers within leaves and other plant organs.

Phylogenetic analysis reveals a scattered distribution of autumn colours
TL;DR: The phylogenetic reconstruction suggests that autumn colours have been acquired and lost many times during evolution, and could be explained by hypotheses involving some kind of coevolutionary interaction or by hypotheses that rely on the need for photoprotection.

Effects of lifelong (CO2) enrichment on carboxylation and light utilization of Quercus pubescens Willd. examined with gas exchange, biochemistry and optical techniques
Cathlyn Stylinski,Walter C. Oechel,John A. Gamon,David T. Tissue,Franco Miglietta,Antonio Raschi +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of elevated CO2 on carboxylation and light utilization of mature Quercus pubescens trees growing under chronic [CO2] enrichment at two CO2 springs and control sites in Italy were examined.

Detecting contamination-induced tree stress within the Chernobyl exclusion zone
Corine Davids,Andrew N. Tyler +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of radionuclide contamination on the vegetation in the Chernobyl exclusion zone was investigated through laboratory and in situ spectroradiometry of silver birch and Scots pine, showing that the chlorophyll red edge and the Three Channel Vegetation Index (TCHVI) correlate well with specific activities of 90 Sr and 137 Cs in leaves, γ-dose rates and 137Cs inventories in soil.
