Abstract: The two levels of syntactic representation induced by lexical functional grammars (LFG) consist of c-structures and sets of attribute-value pairs called f-structures. F-structures are built up from the syntactic surface structure of a sentence by unification of the attribute-value graphs that are associated with each word and each constituent of the c-structure of that sentence. Thus (2) shows an f-structure for the sentence (1).

LFG semantics via constraints

TL;DR: This work presents a deductive approach to assembling meanings, based on reasoning with constraints, which meshes well with the unordered nature of information in the functional structure of LFG.
Quantifiers, Anaphora, and Intensionality
TL;DR: This work is able to provide derivations for certain readings of sentences withintensional verbs and complex direct objects whose derivation inpurely categorial accounts of the syntax-semantics interface appear to require otherwise unnecessary semantic decompositions of lexicalentries.

Grammar Approximation by Representative Sublanguage: A New Model for Language Learning
Smaranda Muresan,Owen Rambow +1 more

TL;DR: A new language learning model that learns a syntactic-semantic grammar from a small number of natural language strings annotated with their semantics, along with basic assumptions about natural language syntax is proposed.

Lambda calculus notation with nameless dummies, a tool for automatic formula manipulation, with application to the Church-Rosser theorem

- 01 Jan 1972
TL;DR: In this paper, a notational system for lambda calculus is developed, where occurrences of variables are indicated by integers giving the "distance" to the binding λ instead of a name attached to that λ. This convention is known to cause considerable trouble in cases of substitution.

TL;DR: A new algorithm is proposed which transforms f-structures into discourse representation structures (DRSs) and sheds light on how an efficient interaction of different components of a natural language processing model can be achieved.
