Dantean Suffering in the Work of Percy Shelley and T. S. Eliot: From Torment to Purgation
TL;DR: This article examined the difference between a stance that concentrates on the infernal, punitive aspects of Dante's vision and one that regards suffering as a necessary, even desirable, condition en route to redemption, highlighting the extent to which Eliot, who initially restated fundamental Shelleyan concerns in early poetry, was able to use his Christian faith to attain a degree of resolution that Shelley found elusive.
