Ultimate chromatic polynomials
Nigel Ray,William Schmitt +1 more
TL;DR: An approach to enumeration problems which relies on the algebra of free abelian groups, giving as the main application a generalisation of the chromatic polynomial of a simple graph G, and extending the whole construction to incorporate the corresponding incidence Hopf algebras.

Complex Systems: From the Presocratics to Pension Funds
01 Jan 2022
TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigate the problem of complexity from a philosophical point of view, tracing back some of the relevant questions to Greek philosophers, using examples from probability, economics and finance to feature typical phenomena.

Shuffle and Fa\`a di Bruno Hopf Algebras in the Center Problem for Ordinary Differential Equations
TL;DR: In this article, the Hopf algebra approach to the center problem for the differential equation is described and a combinatorial property of the first return map of this equation is studied.

A Faà di Bruno subalgebra of the graded dual of word symmetric functions
TL;DR: It is shown that the graded dual of the Hopf algebra of word symmetric functions contains the Faa di Bruno algebra as a Hopf subalgebra as the expansion of natural generators on a natural basis of this graded dual.

The Sum Composition Problem.
TL;DR: A first algorithm is presented solving the exhaustive problem and then a second algorithm solving the existential problem of the "sum composition problem" between two lists of positive integers.

A new expression for umbral operators and power series inversion
A. M. Garsia,S. A. Joni +1 more
- 01 Jan 1977
TL;DR: Garsia and Rodota as discussed by the authors showed that the theory of umbral operators offers a natural setting for the study of formal power series inversion, and they derived a new proof of the Lagrange inversion theorem by operator theoretic methods.
