Abstract: A fully probabilistic framework is presented for estimating local probability density functions on parameters of interest in a model of diffusion. This technique is applied to the estimation of parameters in the diffusion tensor model, and also to a simple partial volume model of diffusion. In both cases the parameters of interest include parameters defining local fiber direction. A technique is then presented for using these density functions to estimate global connectivity (i.e., the probability of the existence of a connection through the data field, between any two distant points), allowing for the quantification of belief in tractography results. This technique is then applied to the estimation of the cortical connectivity of the human thalamus. The resulting connectivity distributions correspond well with predictions from invasive tracer methods in nonhuman primate.

TL;DR: In a working memory task with emotional distracters, the PCE adolescents exhibited less capability of increasing their vPFC activation in response to increased memory load, which corresponded with their less suppressed amygdala activation, which complement previous findings of the impact of PCE on the activity of the amygdala.
Structural changes in left fusiform areas and associated fiber connections in children with abacus training: evidence from morphometry and tractography
TL;DR: The present results demonstrate the structural changes in the left FG from the intracortical GM to the subcortical WM regions and provide insights into the neural mechanism of structural plasticity induced by abacus training.

TL;DR: It is unlikely that microstructural changes affecting FA occurred in the fornix of AN patients, and previously identified alterations in acute AN may have been biased by partial volume effects and the proposed central role in the pathophysiology may need to be reconsidered.

Cognitive and White-Matter Compartment Models Reveal Selective Relations between Corticospinal Tract Microstructure and Simple Reaction Time.
TL;DR: A cognitive model of reaction time and a biophysical compartment model of diffusion-weighted MRI to characterize the relationship between RT and microstructure of the corticospinal tract and the optic radiation, suggesting a link between interindividual differences in sensorimotor speed and selective microstructural properties in white-matter tracts.

A global optimisation method for robust affine registration of brain images
Mark Jenkinson,Stephen M. Smith +1 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the use of local optimisation methods together with the standard multi-resolution approach is not sufficient to reliably find the global minimum, so a global optimisation method is proposed that is specifically tailored to this form of registration.
