Abstract: PURPOSE:To realize the free input of characters regardless of a vertical or horizontal writing style by displaying a character every time it is written by a pen and displaying a frame as the result of recognition to prepare the next frame when the pen is moved to a place except the character writing frame in a pen-up state. CONSTITUTION:When the input of characters are started, the coordinates are supplied from a tablet and added to a coordinate comparing part 24 via a coordinate converting part 21 for detection of the position of a pen. If this pen position is kept within a character writing frame, the presence or absence of a pen-down state is decided. When the absence of the pen-down state is confirmed, the next coordinate input is carried out because a shift is confirmed for writing characters. While the coordinate information is stored in a character pattern storing buffer and displayed in case the pen-down state is confirmed. Then the presence or absence of a pen-down state is also decided if said detected pen position is out of the character frame. Then it is decides that the pen is moved to the outside of the frame after a writing action is through with one character in case no pen-down state is confirmed and the buffer 27 stores data. Thus the new character frame information is outputted from a recognizing part 28 and displayed.
