Carbon dioxide emissions and economic growth: Panel data evidence from developing countries
1K
TL;DR: In this article, the authors test the Environment Kuznet's Curve (EKC) hypothesis for 43 developing countries and find that carbon dioxide emissions have decreased with a rise in income.

Modelling the dynamic linkages between eco-innovation, urbanization, economic growth and ecological footprints for G7 countries: Does financial globalization matter?
Mahmood Ahmad,Ping Jiang,Muntasir Murshed,Khurram Shehzad,Rabia Akram,Lianbiao Cui,Zeeshan Khan +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of financial globalization, urbanization, eco-innovation, and economic growth on the ecological footprints of the G7 countries using annual frequency data spanning from 1980 to 2016, several latest econometric methods, that are robust to handling cross-sectionally dependent panel datasets, are employed to ascertain the environmental impacts of these variables.

Environmental Kuznets curve and financial development in Pakistan
Muhammad Javid,Fatima Sharif +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the effects of financial development, per capita real income, the square of real income and energy consumption on per capita CO 2 emissions for Pakistan during 1972-2013 and found that at the initial stage of development, the level of CO 2 increases with income, and after some threshold level of income, this relationship may change from positive to negative as more efficient infrastructure and energy efficient technology are implemented during the development process of the country.

Bounds testing approach to analysis of the environment Kuznets curve hypothesis
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the long-run and dynamic temporal relationships between economic growth, energy consumption, population density, trade openness, and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions in Brazil, China, Egypt, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, South Korea, and South Africa based on the environment Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis.

The impact of institutional quality on economic growth and carbon emissions: Evidence from Indonesia, South Korea and Thailand
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored the impact of institutional quality on growth-emissions nexus in a panel of three East Asian countries over the period from 1990 to 2016, and found that institutional quality, energy consumption and trade openness stimulate economic growth.

CO2 emissions, natural gas and renewables, economic growth: Assessing the evidence from China
TL;DR: The empirical results confirm the existence of the environmental Kuznets curve for CO2 emissions in China, and the beneficial effects of natural gas and renewables on CO2 emission reduction are observable and the mitigation effect of naturalGas on CO 2 emissions will be weakened over time, while renewables will become progressively more important.

Testing for unit roots in heterogeneous panels
TL;DR: In this article, a unit root test for dynamic heterogeneous panels based on the mean of individual unit root statistics is proposed, which converges in probability to a standard normal variate sequentially with T (the time series dimension) →∞, followed by N (the cross sectional dimension)→∞.

Critical Values for Cointegration Tests in Heterogeneous Panels with Multiple Regressors
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for testing the null of no cointegration in dynamic panels with multiple regressors and computing approximate critical values for these tests is presented. But the method is limited to simple bivariate examples, in large part due to the lack of critical values available for more complex multivariate regressions.

Critical Values for Cointegration Tests in Heterogeneous Panels with Multiple Regressors
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for testing the null of no cointegration in dynamic panels with multiple regressors and computing approximate critical values for these tests is described, which allows for considerable heterogeneity among individual members of the panel, including heterogeneity in both the long-run cointegrating vectors as well as heterogeneity in the dynamics associated with short-run deviations from these coefficients.

The Rise and Fall of the Environmental Kuznets Curve
TL;DR: A critical history of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) can be found in this article, where a new generation of decomposition and efficient frontier models can help disentangle the true relations between development and the environment and may lead to the demise of the classic EKC.

The local power of some unit root tests for panel data
TL;DR: In this article, the local power of panel unit root statistics against a sequence of local alternatives is studied and the results of a Monte Carlo experiment suggest that avoiding the bias can improve the power of the test substantially.
