Abstract: Cadmium is a heavy metal of considerable toxicity with destructive impact on most organ systems. It is widely distributed in humans, the chief sources of contamination being cigarette smoke, welding, and contaminated food and beverages. Toxic impacts are discussed and appear to be proportional to body burden of cadmium. Detoxification of cadmium with EDTA and other chelators is possible and has been shown to be therapeutically beneficial in humans and animals when done using established protocols.

Silymarin Ameliorates Oxidative Stress and Enhances Antioxidant Defense System Capacity in Cadmium-Treated Mice.
Elham Farjad,Hamid Reza Momeni +1 more
TL;DR: Silymarin as a powerful antioxidant reverses the toxic effect of cadmium on the serum levels of lipid peroxidation, total antioxidant power, antioxidant defense system enzymes activity and thiol groups.

The role of inflammation in cadmium nephrotoxicity: NF-κB comes into view.
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors focused on certain compounds including cytochalasin D, mangiferin, N-acetylcysteine, pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate, roflumilast, rosmarinic acid, sildenafil, sinapic acid, telmisartan and wogonin and certain plants as Astragalus polysaccharide, Ginkgo Biloba and Thymus serrulatus that potently inhibit NF-κB and effectively counteracted Cd-associated renal intoxication.

The longitudinal effects of early developmental cadmium exposure on conditioned place preference and cardiovascular physiology in zebrafish
Marissa Wold,Myranda Beckmann,Shelby Poitra,Ana Espinoza,Robert Longie,Erik J. Mersereau,Diane C. Darland,Tristan Darland +7 more
TL;DR: Surviving longitudinal adult fish exposed to the highest concentration of Cd showed normal CPP and cardiovascular physiology, which implies that even lower exposure concentrations can potentially result in fitness-affecting parameters without affecting survival in a laboratory setting.

Composition of the Continental Crust
Roberta L. Rudnick,Shan Gao +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the present-day composition of the continental crust, the methods employed to derive these estimates, and the implications of continental crust composition for the formation of the continents, Earth differentiation, and its geochemical inventories are discussed.
The composition of the continental crust
TL;DR: In this paper, a new calculation of the crustal composition is based on the proportions of upper crust (UC) to felsic lower crust (FLC) to mafic lower-crust (MLC) of about 1.6:0.4.
