Abstract: In this paper, a broadband circularly polarized Fabry-Perot resonator antenna with simple array thinning technique is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a single layer partially reflective surface formed by ring FSS and a four sequential rotated sparse primary radiators backed with ground. A prototype antenna operating at 10GHz is designed. Simulation results show that a common frequency bandwidth of 12% for S 11 ≤ −10dB and gain-drop ≤ 2 dB and axial ratio ≤ 3 dB is obtained.

Partially reflecting sheet arrays
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of placing a partially reflecting sheet in front of an antenna with a reflecting screen at a wavelength of 3.2 cm and showed that large arrays produce considerably greater directivity but their efficiency is poor.

Array thinning by using antennas in a Fabry-Perot cavity for gain enhancement
TL;DR: In this article, a dual-polarized antenna with two interleaved 2 x 2 arrays placed in a 2-layer Fabry-Perot cavity is presented. But the performance of the antenna is not as good as that of the conventional patch antennas, which have a 19 dBi gain and 30 dB of isolation between the two ports.
