Abstract: Collection of blood from small laboratory animals is necessary for a wide range of scientific research and there are a number of efficient methods available for that. It is important that blood sample collection from experimental animals should be least stressful because stress will affect the outcome of the study. Various regulatory agencies and guidelines have restricted the use of animals and the techniques used for blood collection in laboratory animals. This article deals with the approved blood collection techniques for laboratory animals like rodents, lagomorphs and nonrodents. Permission of the Institute Animal Ethics Committee has been obtained for the use of animals for demonstrating the techniques.

Changes in tramadol enantioselective pharmacokinetics and metabolism in rats with experimental diabetes treated or not with insulin.
Ana Leonor Pardo Campos Godoy,Natália Valadares de Moraes,Jhohann Richard de Lima Benzi,Vera Lucia Lanchote +3 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the impact of diabetes treated or not with insulin in the enantioselective pharmacokinetics of tramadol (trans‐T) and its phase 1 metabolites suggested down‐regulation of CYP3A and OCT1.

Possible Protective Effects of Mirabegron on Experimentally Induced Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis in Rats
TL;DR: Data suggest that mirabegron may have a potential usefulness in the prevention of NASH as regard to liver enzymes, lipid profile, serum HbA1c, fasting insulin and blood glucose, insulin resistance index, and serum adiponectin levels with improvement of liver histopathological changes.
Correlation between Oxidative Stress Markers and Biochemical Indices of Cardiac Function of Postpartum Albino Rats Administered Natron
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors investigated the correlation between the antioxidant status of cardiac muscles and serum biochemical indices of cardiac function of postpartum albino rats administered natron and found that high concentrations of natron led to an increase in markers of oxidative stress in the cardiac muscles, which may be responsible for the observed derangement in cardiac function indices.
Effect of intermittent fasting on adriamycin-induced nephropathy: Possible underlying mechanisms.
Fathy H Elsaid,Abdelaziz M Hussein,Elsayed A. Eid,O. A. Ammar,A. A. Khalil +4 more
TL;DR: Intermittent fasting (IF) alleviates adriamycin-induced nephropathy in rats by enhancing antioxidant defenses, reducing oxidative stress, apoptosis, and tubulointerstitial damage, and upregulating AQP2, Sirt1, and Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathways.

Neuregulin-1 attenuates hemolysis- and ischemia induced-cerebrovascular inflammation associated with sickle cell disease.
TL;DR: Neuregulin-1β (NRG-1), an endogenous neuroprotective polypeptide, is increased in SCD or experimental conditions mimicking the hemolysis and ischemic conditions of SCD as mentioned in this paper .

Methods of Blood Collection in the Mouse
Janet Hoff
- 01 Jan 2000
TL;DR: Blood collection is used for a wide variety of scientific studies, and there are a number of efficient methods available, but it is important to remember that blood collection, because it can stress the animals, may have an impact on the outcome of research data.
Saphenous vein puncture for blood sampling of the mouse, rat, hamster, gerbil, guineapig, ferret and mink
TL;DR: A humane and practical alternative to cardiac and retro-orbital puncture, in species where venepuncture has traditionally been regarded as problematic, is described for blood collection from the lateral saphenous vein.

Chronic vascular catheterization in the rat: comparison of three techniques.
TL;DR: It is concluded that for long-term sampling of blood in the rat, the femoral artery catheterization procedure is preferable in terms of patency and postsurgical weight loss.
