Abstract: Collection of blood from small laboratory animals is necessary for a wide range of scientific research and there are a number of efficient methods available for that. It is important that blood sample collection from experimental animals should be least stressful because stress will affect the outcome of the study. Various regulatory agencies and guidelines have restricted the use of animals and the techniques used for blood collection in laboratory animals. This article deals with the approved blood collection techniques for laboratory animals like rodents, lagomorphs and nonrodents. Permission of the Institute Animal Ethics Committee has been obtained for the use of animals for demonstrating the techniques.

Improvement in Bioavailability and Pharmacokinetic Characteristics of Efavirenz with Booster Dose of Ritonavir in PEGylated PAMAM G4 Dendrimers
TL;DR: The pharmacokinetic data including Cmax, t1/2, AUCtot, and MRT were significantly improved in PPG4ER as compared with single EFV and EFV-RTV, revealing that the P PG4ER has great potential to target the virus harbors tissues and improve bioavailability.

The Effect of Pioglitazone on Pharmacokinetics of Carbamazepine in Healthy Rabbits
TL;DR: Evaluating the pharmacokinetic interaction between pioglitazone (PG) and carbamazepine (CBZ) in healthy male rabbits demonstrated that PG does not affect pharmacokinetics parameters of CBZ, and no cautions regarding dose or administration pattern of CB z should be taken.

Effect of Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells on Induced Ischemia/Reperfusion in Skeletal Muscle of Adult Male Albino Rat: An Immunohistochemical Study
TL;DR: Evidence has suggested that reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inflammation play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of hind limb IRI (Kılıç et al., 2017).
Effect of Soyghurt Lactobacillus Acidohillus on Blood Glucose Levels in Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Rats
TL;DR: It was found that a combination of soyghurt L. acidophilus and glycbenklamid results in the largest decrease in blood glucose levels, which complemented the mechanism of action of glibenclamide which increases insulin secretion.

Methods of Blood Collection in the Mouse
Janet Hoff
- 01 Jan 2000
TL;DR: Blood collection is used for a wide variety of scientific studies, and there are a number of efficient methods available, but it is important to remember that blood collection, because it can stress the animals, may have an impact on the outcome of research data.
Saphenous vein puncture for blood sampling of the mouse, rat, hamster, gerbil, guineapig, ferret and mink
TL;DR: A humane and practical alternative to cardiac and retro-orbital puncture, in species where venepuncture has traditionally been regarded as problematic, is described for blood collection from the lateral saphenous vein.

Chronic vascular catheterization in the rat: comparison of three techniques.
TL;DR: It is concluded that for long-term sampling of blood in the rat, the femoral artery catheterization procedure is preferable in terms of patency and postsurgical weight loss.
