Abstract: We review recent progress in the construction of black holes in three dimensional higher spin gravity theories. Starting from spin-3 gravity and working our way toward the theory of an infinite tower of higher spins coupled to matter, we show how to harness higher spin gauge invariance to consistently generalize familiar notions of black holes. We review the construction of black holes with conserved higher spin charges and the computation of their partition functions to leading asymptotic order. In view of the anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory (CFT) correspondence as applied to certain vector-like conformal field theories with extended conformal symmetry, we successfully compare to CFT calculations in a generalized Cardy regime. A brief recollection of pertinent aspects of ordinary gravity is also given. This article is part of a special issue of Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical devoted to ‘Higher spin theories and holography’.

TL;DR: In this paper, a general relativistic mechanism in which spikes generate matter overdensities in the early universe was investigated, and it was shown that the tilt plays the primary role in generating matter inhomogeneities.

TL;DR: In this paper, a prototype of the fused silica suspension stage for use in the advanced LIGO (aLIGO) detector network is presented, and the authors discuss the design and fabrication of a prototype suspension, together with the suspension assembly techniques, taking into account the precise shape of the actual fibres used, and weld loss.
Relativistic cosmological perturbation scheme on a general background: scalar perturbations for irrotational dust
TL;DR: In this paper, a perturbation approach that describes the evolution of inhomogeneities on a general background being defined by the spatially averaged evolution equations is presented. But it is restricted to scalar perturbations.

Particle Creation by Black Holes
TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that quantum mechanical effects cause black holes to create and emit particles as if they were hot bodies with temperature, which leads to a slow decrease in the mass of the black hole and to its eventual disappearance.
Gauge Theory Correlators from Non-Critical String Theory
TL;DR: In this paper, a boundary of the anti-deSitter space analogous to a cut-off on the Liouville coordinate of the two-dimensional string theory is introduced to obtain certain Green's functions in 3+1-dimensional N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with a large number of colors via non-critical string theory.
