Two-step regulation and continuous retrotransposition of the rice LINE-type retrotransposon Karma.
TL;DR: The results indicate that two different mechanisms, one transcriptional and the other developmental, control the mobilization of Karma, a LINE-type retrotransposon of plants for which continuous retrotransposition was observed in consecutive generations.
Differential Gene Expression and Protein Abundance Evince Ontogenetic Bias toward Castes in a Primitively Eusocial Wasp
James H. Hunt,Florian Wolschin,Florian Wolschin,Michael T. Henshaw,Thomas C. Newman,Amy L. Toth,Amy L. Toth,Gro V. Amdam,Gro V. Amdam +8 more
TL;DR: hypotheses of 1) larval developmental pathway divergence that can lead to caste bias in adults and 2) nutritional differences as the foundation of the pathway divergence are supported.
Sex-Specific Splicing in Drosophila: Widespread Occurrence, Tissue Specificity and Evolutionary Conservation
TL;DR: Exon-specific microarrays used to examine 417 multitranscript genes for evidence of sex-specific and genotype-specific splicing in 80 different genotypes of Drosophila melanogaster found that all six loci are themselves spliced sex specifically in gonads and heads, suggesting that regulatory hierarchies based on alternative splicing may be an important feature of sexual differentiation.

Cloning and Characterization of Human Adenosine 5′-triphosphate-binding Cassette, Sub-family A, Transporter 2 (ABCA2)
Bojana Vulevic,Zhijian J. Chen,Jonathan T. Boyd,Warren Davis,Eileen S. Walsh,Martin G. Belinsky,Kenneth D. Tew +6 more
TL;DR: Analysis of mRNA expression levels indicated that ABCA2 is highest in human brain and has a broad expression pattern in a panel of tumor cell lines, and the presence of a lipocalin signature motif in theABCA2 sequence suggests a possible broad role for this protein in the transport of steroids, lipids, and related molecules.

Salinity Decreases Nitrite Reductase Gene Diversity in Denitrifying Bacteria of Wastewater Treatment Systems
TL;DR: Investigation of the diversity of nirK and nirS in denitrifying bacteria revealed that salinity decreased the diversity in a nitrate-containing saline wastewater treatment system.
