TL;DR: This chapter outlines theoretical advances regarding the bidirectional link between perception and action from an auditory perspective and presents empirical studies with a behavioral and neuroscientific focus that have investigated the effect of natural as well as artificial movement sounds in different areas such as action perception, motor learning, and control of bodily movements.

Abstract: Researchers have investigated whether some cognitive functions develop from genuine motor or body-related functions. It was proposed that shared mechanisms are involved in action and perception, which are interconnected. With the help of auditory stimuli, the already existing knowledge in this research field was extended. Although the auditory sense is a functionally different system from the visual sense, just as with visual information, actions can be optimally perceived through auditory information. In this chapter, we outline theoretical advances regarding the bidirectional link between perception and action from an auditory perspective. We will present empirical studies with a behavioral and neuroscientific focus that have investigated the effect of natural as well as artificial movement sounds in different areas such as action perception, motor learning, and control of bodily movements.

The Principles of Psychology
G.P. Putnam's Sons
- 11 Apr 2018
TL;DR: For instance, the authors discusses the multiplicity of the consciousness of self in the form of the stream of thought and the perception of space in the human brain, which is the basis for our work.

Dance Is More Than Meets the Eye-How Can Dance Performance Be Made Accessible for a Non-sighted Audience?
TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that a non-exclusively visual approach can be enriching and promising for all three perspectives and conclude by proposing hypotheses for multidisciplinary lines of research.

心理学原理 = The principles of psychology
William James
- 01 Jan 2010
Abstract: Arguably the greatest single work in the history of psychology. James's analyses of habit, the nature of emotion, the phenomenology of attention, the stream of thought, the perception of space, and the multiplicity of the consciousness of self are still widely cited and incorporated into contemporary theoretical accounts of these phenomena.

Mirror neurons and the simulation theory of mind-reading.
TL;DR: The activity of mirror neurons, and the fact that observers undergo motor facilitation in the same muscular groups as those utilized by target agents, are findings that accord well with simulation theory but would not be predicted by theory theory.

The Theory of Event Coding (TEC): a framework for perception and action planning.
TL;DR: A new framework for a more adequate theoretical treatment of perception and action planning is proposed, in which perceptual contents and action plans are coded in a common representational medium by feature codes with distal reference, showing that the main assumptions are well supported by the data.

Internal models for motor control and trajectory planning
TL;DR: The 'minimum variance model' is another major recent advance in the computational theory of motor control, strongly suggesting that both kinematic and dynamic internal models are utilized in movement planning and control.
