Abstract: Reviews of the current state of research in atomic physics are presented. Experimental work on such topics as search for parity violation, spectroscopy and collision processes of fast, highly-stripped heavy ions, exotic atoms, high Rydberg states, laser spectroscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy, and others is described. Twenty-seven papers were prepared for the data base. (GHT)

Theory of ultracold atomic Fermi gases
TL;DR: In this article, the physics of quantum degenerate atomic Fermi gases in uniform as well as in harmonically trapped configurations is reviewed from a theoretical perspective, focusing on the effect of interactions that bring the gas into a superfluid phase at low temperature.

TL;DR: Bose-Einstein condensation of sodium atoms observed in a novel trap. High phase-space density achieved through evaporative cooling. Bimodal velocity distribution below the critical temperature.

Charles S. Adams,Erling Riis +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the basic mechanisms used in laser cooling and trapping, and illustrates the development of the field by describing a selection of key experiments, are discussed, and a review of the key experiments is presented.

Making, probing and understanding Bose-Einstein condensates
TL;DR: The 1998 Enrico Fermi summer school on Bose-Einstein condensation as mentioned in this paper was held in Varenna, Italy, and the proceedings of the 1998 EnRICO FermI summer school were described in detail.
Atom-molecule coherence in a Bose-Einstein condensate.
TL;DR: The oscillation frequency is in excellent agreement with the theoretical molecular binding energy, indicating that the author has created a quantum superposition of atoms and diatomic molecules—two chemically different species.
