Substitutions at position 146 of cytochrome b affect drastically the properties of heme bL and the Qo site of Rhodobacter capsulatus cytochrome bc1 complex
TL;DR: Findings indicate that this region of cyt b must be well packed around heme bL since even a slight increase in the size of the amino acid side chain at position 146 greatly perturbs the spatial conformation of heME bL, alters substrate accessibility and binding to the Qo site, and renders the bc1 complex inactive.

Comparative analyses of three-dimensional models of bacterial reaction centers.
A. Camara-Artigas,James P. Allen +1 more
TL;DR: The quality of the structures of the bacterial reaction center are described based upon different criteria, such as evaluation of the geometry of the models and comparison of different models, which find the cofactors and the surrounding protein regions are among the most accurately determined regions of the protein.

A D-band (130 GHz) EPR study of the primary electron donor triplet state in photosynthetic reaction centers ofRhodobacter sphaeroides R26
TL;DR: In this article, a high-frequency (D-band, 130 GHz) electron spin echo-detected spectrum of the primary electron donor triplet state,3P, in quinone-depleted photosynthetic reaction centers from the bacteriumRhodobacter sphaeroides R26 is obtained.

High-pressure and stark hole-burning studies of chlorosome antennas from Chlorobium tepidum.
TL;DR: Results from high-pressure and Stark hole-burning experiments on isolated chlorosomes from the green sulfur bacterium Chlorobium tepidum and bacteriochlorophyll c (BChl c) monomers in a poly(vinyl butyral) copolymer film establish that Deltamu+ is dominated by the matrix-induced contribution.
