Abstract: The phonon states of iron atoms in the easy-axis aligned $L{1}_{0}\text{-FePt}$ nanoparticles were investigated using $^{57}\text{F}\text{e}$ nuclear-resonant inelastic scattering. It was revealed that the phonon density of states (PDOS) in the $L{1}_{0}\text{-FePt}$ has a pronounced anisotropy. To study the results from a theoretical point of view, we calculated the PDOS of the $L{1}_{0}\text{-FePt}$ in the bulk state by means of the first-principles method. The results were in good agreement with the experimental results.

Generalized Gradient Approximation Made Simple
TL;DR: A simple derivation of a simple GGA is presented, in which all parameters (other than those in LSD) are fundamental constants, and only general features of the detailed construction underlying the Perdew-Wang 1991 (PW91) GGA are invoked.
Projector augmented-wave method
TL;DR: An approach for electronic structure calculations is described that generalizes both the pseudopotential method and the linear augmented-plane-wave (LAPW) method in a natural way and can be used to treat first-row and transition-metal elements with affordable effort and provides access to the full wave function.

Monodisperse FePt Nanoparticles and Ferromagnetic FePt Nanocrystal Superlattices
TL;DR: Thermal annealing converts the internal particle structure from a chemically disordered face- centered cubic phase to the chemically ordered face-centered tetragonal phase and transforms the nanoparticle superlattices into ferromagnetic nanocrystal assemblies that can support high-density magnetization reversal transitions.
