Analysis of pounding between adjacent buildings founded on different soil types
32
TL;DR: In this article , the effect of pounding between buildings founded on the same and different soil types was investigated, and the results showed that the highest displacements and shear forces can be expected for buildings built on the soft clay soil, then for buildings constructed on the stiff soil and soft rock, and finally for buildings based on the rock and hard rock.

Seismic Interaction between Multistory Pilotis RC Frames and Shorter Structures with Different Story Levels—Floor-to-Column Pounding
TL;DR: In this paper , the influence of an open first story (pilotis) on the pounding phenomenon was investigated with inelastic dynamic step-by-step analyses of an 8-story reinforced concrete (RC) frame with a single story and 4-story buildings.
Structural flexibility impact on pounding severity and seismic performance of adjacent isolated buildings
Ataallah Sadeghi-Movahhed,Dario De Domenico,Ali Majdi +2 more
TL;DR: This study investigates the impact of superstructure flexibility and isolator characteristics on pounding severity and seismic performance of adjacent isolated buildings, revealing flexibility's role in reducing performance under pounding, particularly for shorter buildings.

Pounding Risk Assessment through Soil–Structure Interaction Analysis in Adjacent High-Rise RC Structures
TL;DR: This study assesses seismic resilience of adjacent high-rise RC structures, highlighting the impact of soil-structure interaction and structural design on pounding risk, with shear walls increasing capacity by up to 56% and softer soil exacerbating deformations and settlements.

Seismic Response of Adjacent Unequal Buildings Subjected to Double Pounding Considering Soil-Structure Interaction
Denise-Penelope N. Kontoni,Ahmed A. Farghaly +1 more
- 01 Feb 2018
TL;DR: The earthquake-induced double pounding that takes place between the two adjacent unequal height buildings in some upper points at superstructure in the contact zone and also at foundation level, considering soil-structure interaction (SSI).
Mitigation measures for earthquake induced pounding effects on seismic performance of adjacent buildings
TL;DR: In this paper, a parametric study on buildings pounding response as well as proper seismic hazard mitigation practice for adjacent buildings is carried out, where three categories of recorded earthquake excitation are used for input excitations.
Pounding between adjacent buildings of varying height coupled through soil
TL;DR: In this paper, the seismic responses of adjacent buildings of varying height coupled through soil subjected to earthquake-induced pounding are evaluated, and the results indicate that the shorter building suffers more from the pounding with decreasing height and when its height differs substantially from that of the taller building.
Effect of ground motion directionality on the seismic response of base isolated buildings pounding against adjacent structures
TL;DR: In this paper, a nonlinear time-history analysis of base isolated buildings, pounding with nearby conventionally fixed-supported buildings and/or the surrounding moat walls is carried out in order to examine the conditions that lead to pounding and quantify the effect of certain critical parameters on the corresponding peak seismic response.
Nonlinear Seismic Torsional Pounding Between an Asymmetric Tower and a Barrier
X.X. Wei,L.X. Wang,Kam Tim Chau +2 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors modeled torsional pounding between an asymmetric single-story tower and a neighboring barrier under harmonic ground excitation as the nonlinear Hertz contact and numerically solved the governing equations of motion with an adaptive step size control.
