Abstract: This IEEE Classic Reissue provides at an advanced level, a uniquely fundamental exposition of the applications of Statistical Communication Theory to a vast spectrum of important physical problems. Included are general analysis of signal detection, estimation, measurement, and related topics involving information transfer. Using the statistical Bayesian viewpoint, renowned author David Middleton employs statistical decision theory specifically tailored for the general tasks of signal processing. Dr. Middleton also provides a special focus on physical modeling of the canonical channel with real-world examples relating to radar, sonar, and general telecommunications. This book offers a detailed treatment and an array of problems and results spanning an exceptionally broad range of technical subjects in the communications field. Complete with special functions, integrals, solutions of integral equations, and an extensive, updated bibliography by chapter, An Introduction to Sta istical Communication Theory is a seminal reference, particularly for anyone working in the field of communications, as well as in other areas of statistical physics. Modeling and processing of fluctuating signals with staggered period
Vitaliy Ivanovich Koshelev,Vladimir G. Andrejev +1 more
- 12 Jun 2016
TL;DR: The efficiency of the modified filter is analyzed, the issues involved in simplification of modeling random staggered-period signals by means of the parallel structure of autoregressive filters are considered and additional computational costs required for its implementation are estimated.

Theoretical-experimental investigation of EMC communication systems due to multipoint interference influence
V.Ya. Kontorovich,R. Linares +1 more
- 02 Aug 1999
TL;DR: In this article, a theoretical-experimental investigation of the EMC of communication systems that suffer multipoint interference is presented, where the main goal of the theoretical part is to define the set of interference parameters, reducing the value of the proper EMC criteria.

Study of statistical model and power measurement results for distortions due to clipping in SCM optical transmission system
TL;DR: The statistical model for the distortion amplitude derived is used and the measurement error is calculated for the case in which the amplitude distribution of the distortion due to clipping follows that of the impulse noise.
Hermite series expansion of the PDF of sum of random variables and its application to analysis of equal gain combining diversity reception
S.M.P.N. Samarasinghe,D.N. Wasalthilake,N. Ekanayake +2 more
- 01 Dec 2009
TL;DR: The investigation shows that the error probabilities can be numerically computed efficiently with the new series approximately up to 10−5, and it is shown that the Hermite series expansion is not particularly suitable for evaluating very small error probabilities though seldom one requires such low probabilities.
