Abstract: Two dimensional paper chromatography or automated amino acid analysis of the “amino acid-fraction” prepared from ethanol extracts of plants and fungi reveals the existence of many ninhydrin-positive substances. These are mostly protein amino acids in the free state, but also include several non-protein amino acids, i.e., α-aminoadipic acid, ornithine, citrulline, β-alanine, γ-aminobutanoic acid and cysteic acid as well as ethanolamine.

Discovery of a pathway for terminal-alkyne amino acid biosynthesis
Jorge A Marchand,Monica E. Neugebauer,M. C. Ing,C.-I. Lin,Jeffrey G. Pelton,Michelle C. Y. Chang +5 more
TL;DR: The discovery and characterization of a unique pathway to produce a terminal alkyne-containing amino acid in the bacterium Streptomyces cattleya is reported, found that l-lysine undergoes an unexpected reaction sequence that includes halogenation, oxidative C–C bond cleavage and triple bond formation through a putative allene intermediate.

Investigation and analysis of 102 mushroom poisoning cases in Southern China from 1994 to 2012
TL;DR: Seven types of mushroom poisoning symptoms were identified for clinical diagnosis and treatment in China, including gastroenteritis, acute liver failure, acute renal failure, psychoneurological disorder, hemolysis, rhabdomyolysis and photosensitive dermatitis.

New Syndromes in Mushroom Poisoning
Philippe Saviuc,Vincent Danel +1 more
TL;DR: Several new mushroom poisoning syndromes have been described since the early 1990s, where the onset of symptoms generally occurs >6 hours after ingestion, and cases of massive rhabdomyolysis after ingestion of large amounts of an edible and, until then, valuable species called Tricholoma equestre are reported.

Biosynthesis and biotechnological application of non-canonical amino acids: Complex and unclear.
TL;DR: This review summarizes current barriers in developing in vivo pathways for the synthesis of non-canonical amino acids, as well as other considerations, future trends and potential applications ofNon-canonicals amino acids in advanced biotechnology.

The tip and hidden part of the iceberg: Proteinogenic and non-proteinogenic aliphatic amino acids
TL;DR: An overview of natural aliphatic amino acids, up to a side chain length of five carbons, without rings and with an unmodified backbone, and mathematical methods for enumerating the complete list of all potential aliphatics of a given chain length are outlined.

Anion activation of γ-glutamyltransferase from fruiting bodies of Lentinus edodes
TL;DR: Kinetic studies revealed that halides function as activators of increasing V max while keeping K m constant, and the activating effect of halides described here probably extends also to the animal enzymes.

β-3-furylalanine, a new analog of phenylalanine
D.E. Lewis,F.W. Dunn +1 more
TL;DR: β-3-Furylalanine has been synthesized and has been found to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli, ATCC strain 9723; EscherICHia coli , ATCC strains 9723f; and Lactobacillus arabinosus 17-5, and in each strain of E. coli, in the presence of exogenous phenylalanine.

Effect of 1-aminoproline on methionine metabolism in rats.
TL;DR: Observations indicate that the disturbance of methionine metabolism by 1-aminoproline resulted in the accumulation of l -cystathionine and its novel derivatives.

Allenes. Part XVIII. The synthesis of allenic amino-acids from allenic bromides and diethyl formylaminomalonate
D. K. Black,S. R. Landor +1 more
TL;DR: The preparation of six allenic amino-acids from 1-bromoalka-1,2, -2,3, and -3,4-dienes and diethyl formylamino-malonate is described, which gave 2-aminohept-4-en-6-ynoic acid in excellent yield.
