Abstract: We consider viscous rotating accretion flows in which most of the viscously dissipated energy is stored as entropy rather than being radiated. Such advection-dominated flows may occur when the optical depth is either very small or very large. We obtain a family of self-similar solutions where the temperature of the accreting gas is nearly virial and the flow is quasi-spherical. The gas rotates at much less than the Keplerian angular velocity; therefore, the central stars in such flows will cease to spin up long before they reach the break-up limit. Further, the Bernoulli parameter is positive, implying that advection-dominated flows are susceptible to producing outflows. Convection is likely in many of these flows and, if present, will tend to enhance the above effects. We suggest that advection-dominated accretion may provide an explanation for the slow spin rates of accreting stars and the widespread occurrence of outflows and jets in accreting systems.

The Parabolic Jet Structure in M87 as a Magnetohydrodynamic Nozzle
Masanori Nakamura,Keiichi Asada +1 more
TL;DR: The structure and dynamics of the M87 jet from sub-milli-arcsec to arcsecond scales are continuously examined in this article, and it is shown that the parabolic jet consists of Poynting-flux dominated flows, powered by large amplitude, nonlinear torsional Alfven waves.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present multidimensional hydrodynamic simulations of the evolution of white dwarfs (WDs) under the action of an alpha-viscosity, and they initialize their calculations using the output of eight WD merger simulations from Dan et al., which span a range of mass ratios and total masses.
Probing the Magnetic Field Structure in Sgr A* on Black Hole Horizon Scales with Polarized Radiative Transfer Simulations
TL;DR: In this article, general relativistic (GR) polarized radiative transfer of time-dependent three-dimensional GR magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) simulations to model thermal synchrotron emission from the Galactic Center source Sagittarius A$^\ast$ (Sgr A*) was performed and compared to new polarimetry measurements by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT).
