A Representation of Orientable Combinatorial 3-Manifolds
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that every closed, connected, orientable, 3-manifold is obtainable from S3 in the same way as shown in this paper.

Abstract: The following question has been posed by Bing [1]: "Which compact, connected 3-manifolds can be obtained from S3 as follows: Remove a finite collection of mutually exclusive (but perhaps knotted and linking) polyhedral tori T1, T2, * *, To from S3, and sew them back. " This paper answers that question by showing that every closed, connected, orientable, 3-manifold is obtainable from S3 in the above way. Whereas this fact can now be deduced from general theorems of differential topology, the combinatorial proof given here is direct and elementary; while, in the proof, a study is made of a certain type of homeomorphism of a two dimensional manifold that is of interest in itself. Having obtained the above mentioned result on 3-manifolds, it is then easy to deduce the well known result (Theorem 3) that the combinatorial cobordism group for orientable 3-manifolds is trivial.

Diversified homotopic behavior of closed orbits of some -covered Anosov flows
TL;DR: In this paper, the set of periodic orbits is partitioned into two infinite subsets and every closed orbit is freely homotopic to infinitely many other closed orbits of the flow.

TL;DR: Theorem 1.4.0 as mentioned in this paper is a result of the mapping class groups in this paper. But it is based on the work of the authors of this paper and is not related to the work in this thesis.
Surgery on links containing a cable sublink
Bradd Evans Clark
- 01 Mar 1978
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that if a torus link has a cable sublink about the knot k, and surgery on at least two components of the sublink cannot be replaced by surgery on k, then the manifold resulting from surgery on L cannot be simply connected.

Proposed Property 2R counterexamples classified
TL;DR: In this paper, it was argued that a certain family of such links probably contradict the generalized property R Conjecture, and the question of how the family fits into the classification scheme was resolved by giving varied perspectives and more detail on the construction of the family.

Prescribing invariants for integral surfaces in the grassmann bundle of 2-planes in 4-space?
TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider the set of compact orientable rank 1 transverse integral surfaces in G,(R4) and define five differential topological invariants for such a surface.
