Abstract: A method is described for the determination of urea in plasma and urine. The effects of variations in the experimental conditions are examined and the results of recovery experiments and other tests of precision and accuracy are reported. In comparison with other methods in current use, this method has distinct advantages in sensitivity, simplicity, and precision, thus economizing in time, sample volume, reagents, and equipment.

Ascorbic acid in fetal human brain
TL;DR: Ascorbic acid concentrations in fetal human forebrain in the period 11 to 19 weeks' gestational age were 4 to 11 times higher than those of adults and the possible importance of ascorbic acid for normal human brain development is discussed.

Water quality and the biodegradability of dissolved organic carbon in drained boreal peatland under different forest harvesting intensities.
Marjo Palviainen,Elina Peltomaa,Ari Laurén,Niko M. Kinnunen,Anne Ojala,Frank Berninger,Xudan Zhu,Jukka Pumpanen +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the impacts of continuous cover forests on water quality, the biodegradability of DOC and consequent CO2 emissions from inland waters, and the quality of DOC, and mineralization of DOC to CO2 in ground water and ditch water in clearcut, partially harvested, and uncut drained forests in Finland.

Agmatine improves renal function in gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats.
TL;DR: It is indicated that agmatine administration with gentamicin attenuates oxidative-stress associated renal injury by reducing oxygen free radicals and lipid peroxidation, restoring NO level and inhibiting inflammatory mediators such as TNF-α.

Diaminopropionate ammonia-lyase from Salmonella typhimurium. Purification and characterization of the crystalline enzyme, and sequence determination of the pyridoxal 5'-phosphate binding peptide.
TL;DR: A wide occurrence of alpha,beta-diaminopropionate ammonia-lyase in bacteria and actinomycetes is found and no homology was found in either the amino acid sequence of the pyridoxal-P binding peptide or the amino-terminal amino acids sequence between the enzyme and other pyridine-P-dependent enzymes.

Perfomance Study of Urease-PMMA-Based Aqueous Urea Sensor
Asmita Bose,Karabi Biswas +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented the development of a simple, low cost, the new type of urea sensor, and suitable for water quality monitoring, where urease is immobilized on the electrodes using Poly(methyl methacrylate) polymer.

Micromethods for determination of ammonia, urea, total nitrogen, uric acid, creatinine (and creatine), and allantoin
TL;DR: The success with which Krebs and Henseleit employed Warburg’s method of surviving tissue slices in the problem of the formation of urea in the liver encouraged its use for a direct attack on other problems of nitrogen metabolism in animals.
