Abstract: A European Malignant Hyperpyrexia Group has been formed to facilitate exchange of information between centres performing in vitro muscle testing for malignant hyperpyrexia susceptibility. Data have been collected according to a protocol agreed by the Group. Based on these results, test criteria have been established to allow the following diagnoses to be made: MH susceptible (MHS); MH normal (MHN) or MH equivocal (MHE). It is accepted that MHE classified patients will be under permanent review, pending the collection of further data.

The effects of benzamil on in vitro contracture responses of human skeletal muscle to halothane.
TL;DR: Inhibition of sodium-calcium exchange using 100 microM benzamil caused contracture development of in vitro skeletal muscle samples from humans susceptible to malignant hyperthermia, but not of samples from normal individuals.
Muscular Testing of Malignant Hyperthermia in Europe
F. R. Ellis
- 01 Jan 1996
TL;DR: Until 1983, malignant hyperthermia screening was conducted in a limited number of European Centers in a fairly haphazard and ad hoc way, with mixed results for diagnostic uniformity.
Perioperative Management of Patients With Neuromuscular Disorders
01 Jan 2022
TL;DR: The most important serious complications are cardiac and respiratory failure requiring proper evaluation to take preventive measurements, as well as treating them as discussed by the authors , and proper, immediate treatment should be administered, such as the use of intravenous Dantrolene.
