Modulators of the eukaryotic heat shock response.
TL;DR: A wide variety of agents other than heat have been reported to induce or suppress heat shock protein (hsp) synthesis in eukaryotic cells, including inhibitors of respiration, low molecular weight nutrients, oxygen, hormones, sulfhydryl reagents, ionophores and amino acid analogues.

Physical map of two D. melanogaster DNA segments containing sequences coding for the 70,000 dalton heat shock protein.
Larry Moran,Marc-Edouard Mirault,Alfred Tissières,John T. Lis,Paul Schedl,Spyros Artavanis-Tsakonas,Walter J. Gehring +6 more
TL;DR: The results show that the two cloned Dm DNA segments derive from nonoverlapping regions of the Dm genome; that they contain homologous regions present once in 56H8 and twice in 132E3; and that each homologueous region is composed of three distinct contiguous sequence elements, x, y and z, which together define a 3 kb common unit.

Genetic aspects of the hsp70 multigene family in vertebrates.
E. Günther,L. Walter +1 more
TL;DR: The family of genes encoding heat shock proteins of about 70 kDa (hsp70) in vertebrates is reviewed under genetic aspects and general characteristics of the organization and evolution of the multigene family are discussed.

Chromatin conformation remains stable upon extensive transcriptional changes driven by heat shock
Judhajeet Ray,Paul R. Munn,Anniina Vihervaara,James J. Lewis,Abdullah Ozer,Charles G. Danko,John T. Lis +6 more
TL;DR: The study shows that topologically associating domains and compartment structures remain remarkably unchanged upon acute HS in human and Drosophila, while only modest changes of distal regulatory interactions are observed in human cells, suggesting that the chromatin conformation necessary for a robust HS response is preestablished in NHS cells of diverse metazoan species.

Heat shock proteins in health and disease: therapeutic targets or therapeutic agents?
TL;DR: The evolving evidence that heat shock proteins are present in the extracellular environment, that reactivity to heatshock proteins does not necessarily reflect adverse, pro-inflammatory responses and that the promotion of reactivityto self-heat shock proteins can downregulate pathogenic processes all suggest a potential role for heat shock protein as therapeutic agents, rather than as therapeutic targets.

TL;DR: After the injection of “ecdysone”—the hormone of the prothoracic glands—into the last instar larvae of Chironomus tentans, a new puff in the first chromosome appears, while another one disappears, in normal development.

Behavior of polytene chromosomes of Rhynchosciara angelae at different stages of larval development.
M. E. Breuer,C. Pavan +1 more
TL;DR: Polytene chromosomes in cells of salivary gland, Malpighian tubules and intestine of Rhynchosciara angelae are very favorable for study and experimental evidence suggests that a gene is located within a band, which may be morphological evidence of gene activities.

Chromosomal synthesis of ribonucleic acid as shown by incorporation of uridine labelled with tritium.
TL;DR: None of these investigations provide information as to the precise localization of structures within the nucleus which synthesize this acid, except the nucleolus, nor has it been shown that it is the nucleolar organizer which synthesizes the nucleolars ribonucleic acid.
