Simulation-optimisation based framework for Sales and Operations Planning taking into account new products opportunities in a co-production context
TL;DR: A simulation-optimisation based framework to tackle the kinds of problems such as these, where classical formulations cannot be used, is proposed and it is shown how the framework can lead to substantial benefits.

Improving a hardwood flooring cutting system through simulation and optimization
Jean Wery,Philippe Marier,Jonathan Gaudreault,Corinne Chabot,André Thomas +4 more
- 06 Dec 2015
TL;DR: An optimization model is used to generate a production schedule maximizing the expected production value while satisfying production constraints and allows recovering approximately 30 % of the value lost when using the original system.
Carbon footprint of sawn timber products of Castanea sativa Mill. in the north of Spain
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented the carbon footprint of sawn timber products of chestnut forests in Asturias calculated according to PAS 2050, and evaluated the potential for its reduction and options for achieving this.

Planning for a Vertically Integrated Forest Industry
Oscar Barros,Andrés Weintraub +1 more
TL;DR: A linear programming model and an information system designed for tactical planning in a vertically integrated forest industry is presented and results are reported on how the model considers technological, geographical, silvicultural and economic aspects of planning.

Production Planning and Cost Analysis on a Microcomputer
TL;DR: Bethlehem Steel Corporation now uses a microcomputer model for production planning and cost analysis based on an optimization of product flows through a steel-making plant that provides a fast and user-friendly approach for investigating a variety of scenarios more efficiently than would be possible on a mainframe computer.

Optimizing Wood Procurement in Cabinet Manufacturing
TL;DR: In this article, an optimum wood procurement policy for cabinet manufacturing was determined during an Auburn University technical assistance project involving a cabinet assembly plant in Alabama using a linear programming model of the blank production system, and they found that under current conditions this particular mill would be better off if its wood raw material input were limited to #2 grade hardwood logs and #2 common green lumber purchased directly from outside suppliers.
