Abstract: The redundancy in digital image coding can be classified into two categories: local and global. The algorithm proposed in this paper is based on these two characteristics. In this image compression scheme, the image is segmented into variable size blocks coded by three different coding schemes depending on the characteristics exhibited by the pixels within the block.

TL;DR: JPG-LS and JPEG-2000 are the latest ISO/ITU standards for compressing continuous-tone images and are based on LOCO-I algorithm, which was chosen to incorporate the standard due to its good balance between complexity and efficiency.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method of encoding Q-bit input data values, where Q is an integer greater than 1, was proposed, where each encoded data value represents an offset to the corresponding input data value from a bias value closer to that input value than the value zero and is expressed as an R-bit value.

A universal algorithm for sequential data compression

TL;DR: The proposed concept of compressibility is shown to play a role analogous to that of entropy in classical information theory where one deals with probabilistic ensembles of sequences rather than with individual sequences.
