TL;DR: In this paper, a double-coating design for sapphire fibers in γ-TiAl matrix composites was presented. But the debond layer consisted of pyrolytic carbon, colloidal carbon or a mixture of carbon and alumina, and the diffusion barrier was in all cases a dense alumina layer ⩽ 5 μ m thick.
