Abstract: With respect to the increasing trend of companies reversing or modifying previous offshoring decisions, research on manufacturing relocation has gained momentum over the past decade. However, despite increasing efforts in this field, the general understanding of relocation still lacks maturity, with numerous conflicting results and arguments from a variety of industrial and regional contexts that are yet to be consolidated. This study uses a systematic literature review method to address this lack of consolidation, contributing to academia in three ways. First, this paper presents a novel decisional framework that involves all of the relevant aspects of a relocation decision based on 158 reviewed papers, laying a solid foundation for theoretical, conceptual and empirical development. Second, it consolidates and disambiguates all of the relevant terminologies used in relocation debates, providing proper logical clarification. Third, we identify 25 gaps in the research across all decisional aspects and propose three integrated research avenues that are critical to the accumulation of knowledge.

Further Considerations Needed to Assess Reshoring: Its Impact on Host Communities
Fernando Merino
Abstract: ABSTRACT After several decades of offshoring, reshoring is becoming an emergent strategy in many countries and industries. Both governments compel firms to reshore their production to their home countries as firms find, in some cases, that it is more profitable for them to do so. However, neither the reviews of the firm's current behavior nor the existing models for deciding on reshoring include the impact that reshoring has on the communities that host the offshored activities. This paper discusses the impact of reshoring on host communities, emphasizing that it differs from never having hosted offshored activities. It is necessary for firms to be aware of their responsibilities towards the stakeholders they created when they offshored their production. The review of some humanistic management approaches to assess offshoring can inspire how to incorporate this consideration into the reshoring decision‐making process and its implementation.

The Economic Institutions of Capitalism
Paolo Leon
- 01 Jan 2012
TL;DR: The 2008 crash has left all the established economic doctrines - equilibrium models, real business cycles, disequilibria models - in disarray as discussed by the authors, and a good viewpoint to take bearings anew lies in comparing the post-Great Depression institutions with those emerging from Thatcher and Reagan's economic policies: deregulation, exogenous vs. endoge- nous money, shadow banking vs. Volcker's Rule.
