Abstract: A soil classification chart incorporating the Casagrande A-line & Skempton's activity concepts has been developed from data on mineral mixture studies. The proposed chart has been checked against natural soils. It is suggested that such a classification chart meets the necessary conditions for proper soil (tropical) identification as advocated by Vargas (1985)
