TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the relationship between effective leadership behavior and successful strategy implementation in the Nevada casino industry and concluded that an organization which ties rewards to the success of the strategy employed is rewarded with higher levels of organizational performance.
Abstract: The study is an investigation of the relationship between effective leadership behavior and successful strategy implementation in the Nevada casino industry. The study's findings mostly agree with earlier research on the concept of strategy implementation and reaffirm the role that strategic consensus plays in the strategy implementation process. The study also reinforces findings that frequent communication up and down the organization structure enhances strategic consensus through the fostering of shared attitudes and values. In addition, it reaffirms the concept that an organization which ties rewards to the success of the strategy employed is rewarded with higher levels of organizational performance and concludes that strategy implementation plans must be clearly developed, indicating particular tasks for individuals, with clear-cut time frames, and identifying the people responsible for task completion.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the impact of technology on gambling by highlighting salient factors in the rise of Intemet gambling (i.e., accessibility, affordability, anonymity, convenience, escape immersion/dissociation, disinhibition, event frequency, asociability, interactivity, and simulation).
Abstract: Technological innovation has always played a role in the development of gambling behaviour, primarily through providing new market opportunities. Early prevalence
studies of Intemet gambling in the UK, Canada and the US have shown that Intemet gambling is not a eause for concern at present. However, this seems likely to change as more people start to use the Internet for leisure activities. After a brief overview of gambling technologies and deregulation issues, this paper examines the impact of
technology on gambling by highlighting salient factors in the rise of Intemet gambling (i.e., accessibility, affordability, anonymity, convenience, escape immersion/dissociation, disinhibition, event frequency, asociability, interactivity, and simulation). The paper
also overviews some of the main social impacts surrounding Intemet gambling, such as protection of the vulnerable, Intemet gambling in the workplace, electronic cash, and
unscrupulous operators. Recommendations for Internet gambling operators are also provided.
TL;DR: Lucas et al. as mentioned in this paper explored the relationship between bingo and slot business volumes and found that there is no statistically significant relationship between daily bingo headcount and coin-in.
Abstract: Anthony F. Lucas* William T. Dunn Anria Kharitonova Using data from two repeater market hotel casinos, the relationship between bingo and slot business volumes is explored. Contrary to conjecture supplied by industry executives, the results fail to demonstrate a statistically significant relationship between daily bingo headcount and coin-in. This result was found in three different analyses, including one· attempt to estimate the impact of bingo headcount on low-denomination coin-in. This study advances the literature by challenging the assumption that bingo rooms produce substantial indirect slot profits. Given the minimal direct contribution to property cash flows, if any, the results suggest that bingo rooms are not always the highest and best use of valuable casino floor space.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine trip characteristics and gambling behavior of the elderly and compare them with those of other age groups, finding no statistical significance indicating that the elderly behave any different from their younger counterparts.
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine trip characteristics and gambling behavior of the elderly and compare them with those of other age groups. Visitors to two large Midwestern commercial land-based casinos completed a follow-up telephone survey. Of the 32 represented variables, II indicated a significant difference between age groups: Elderly gamblers were the least likely to engage in other recreational activities besides gambling. They were the least likely to obtain information about the casino and the least likely to use the Internet for this information. They preferred to visit casinos on weekdays, and indicated an interest in buying weekday package trips that include stops at several casinos. With regards to overall trip spending and gambling behavior, there is no statistical significance indicating that the elderly behave any different from their younger counterparts.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored the use of an empirical-based model to explain regular gaming purchases, and applied the Duplication of Purchase Law to gaming and found that the duplication of games played was highly correlated with their penetration rates and hence, market share.
Abstract: In a bid to explore the use of an empirical-based model to explain regular gaming purchases, this study applies the Duplication of Purchase Law to gaming. Developed from empirical-based marketing theory and observed in many consumer brands, the Duplication of Purchase Law states that the dominant factor of purchase duplication between two brands is their market share. Using data obtained from the U.S. Gambling Impact Study, this study found that the duplication of games played was highly correlated to their penetration rates and hence, market share. In addition, the number of sole gamblers in each game was also related to its penetration rate. The results suggest the applicability of the duplication law to gaming. The implications of the findings to gaming businesses and public policy makers are discussed.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the specific risks associated with Internet gambling and present an industry structure designed to offset consumer perceptions of perceived risk through industry self regulation and alternative dispute management techniques.
Abstract: The legislative gaps in international eCommerce and specifically in the gambling industry mean that many consumers face the market condition of caveat emptor (let the buyer beware). In terms of consumer psychology, caveat emptor increases consumer perceptions of risk and slows the diffusion of Internet gambling. This paper discusses the specific risks associated with Internet gambling and presents an industry structure designed to off-set consumer perceptions of perceived risk through industry self regulation and alternative dispute management techniques.
TL;DR: In this paper, the author analyzes not only whether a domestic prohibition schema is the best model to implement, but also whether such a model could even be truly effective, and further shows that an international regulatory model can provide a legitimate method of control while allowing individual countries to maintain discretion over the form of online gambling they allow to their citizens.
Abstract: While a multitude of Internet enterprises folded in the 1990s, online gambling websites not only have held strong, but appear to be ready to increase the stakes. No business relating to the Internet currently generates more revenue than online gambling, and that trend does not look like it will change soon. UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal+ Volume 10, Issue 1 59 While many Americans desire to participate in this form of cyber-gambling, the current legality of their ability to do so remains vague. For the most part, an American's ability to gamble currently resides under the purview of state law and a hodgepodge of antiquated federal wire acts. The nature of the Internet, however, mandates that any scheme, regulatory or prohibitory, be constructed in the international arena. For various reasons, there have been efforts by members of Congress to create strong prohibitory legislation specifically targeting Internet gambling. The Author analyzes not only whether a domestic prohibition schema is the best model to implement, but also whether such a model could even be truly effective. The Author further shows that an international regulatory model can provide a legitimate method of control while allowing individual countries to maintain discretion over the form of online gambling they allow to their citizens. At the same time, this international regulatory schema would still provide a valid international enforcement net against offenders. Under this regulatory schema, problem gamblers can be protected while still preserving the opportunity for other patrons to get lucky and hit it big.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors trace the shift from implementing online gambling across state lines to intrastate gaming within Nevada with hand-held devices in auxiliary areas of a casino complex beyond the casino floor.
Abstract: The State of Nevada, to retain its position as pace setter in U.S. casino gaming regulation, took important legislative steps to prepare for online gambling. When these legal efforts were discouraged or blocked by the U. S. Department of Justice a new direction emerged. This article traces the shift from implementing online gambling across state lines to intrastate gaming within Nevada with hand-held devices in auxiliary areas of a casino complex beyond the casino floor. Regulatory issues are raised and prospects for inaugurating interactive gaming are discussed.

Abstract: For a central place to access online and interactive gaming information there is not a more convenient or comprehensive website than Online Casino City.
