TL;DR: In the Olympiad of 776 B.C. as mentioned in this paper, a sanctuary to Zeus was built in the city of Olympia in Greece, which contained a stadium with two altars, one called Hermes of the Games and the other called the altar of Opportunity.
Abstract: I N Ar~CmNT GREECe, in the city of Olympia, a sanctuary to Zeus was erected. That complex of buildings contained a stadium where the first Olympiad was held in 776 B.C. "Quite close to the entrance to the stadium are two altars; one they call Hermes of the Games, the other is the altar of Opportunity. I know that a hymn to Opportunity is one of the poems of Ion of Chios (b. 490 B.C.}; in the hymn, Opportunity is made out to be the youngest child of Zeus. 'u (Pausanias F1. 150 A.D.) Kalros personified opportunity, also translated as "psychological moment? '~ The uniqueness of Kairos' position is reflected in his being a child of the gods of Zeus, father and protector of the family; a son with its many significances; and the youngest with its unique implications. His specialness is further enhanced by the fact that his father Zeus was the youngest son of Cronos, who in turn was the youngest son of Heaven (Ouranos) and Earth (Gaea) who emerged from chaos, the Void, that existed before there was anything. Chaos comes from the Greek root, to gape, simply meaning open space. Kalros was a favorite subject in art, especially from the time of Lucippus of Sicyon. (FL about 328 B.C.) ~ He was later shown with a long forelock, while being bald behind. (Description of him in a poem by Possidippus of Pella F1. 270 B.C.) ~ Hence by a gross mistranslation of his name, we have the expression "to take time by the forelock. ''2 Kairos as the youngest is the newest, a beginning, what is most immanent, an opportunity, a chance, a psychological moment, an auspicious, a right time, llfe itself as it unfolds moment to moment. As you approach the stadium and the contests to take place there, you encounter and confront Kairos as he encounters and confronts you. The concept of Begegnung is evident as well as that we are dealing with an existential situation and one of deep importance. The audience were not univolved spectators but active participants, an aspect of the totality, as evidenced by the crucial role of the chorus in the Greek drama. These contests involved many dimensions of human being and creativity, not only athletics but poetry, drama and the dance. The setting and circumstances were dramatic, their import to honor and venerate the gods, while considerably affecting and influencing one's position and status in the polls. A person's whole existence was at stake in its individual, collective and cosmic aspects. These many dimensions of the coming events determined how essential it was that you know who Kalros was, what he looked like, and that you respond totally to the existential confrontation and seize him by the forelock where your grip was firm. One moment later as you passed him and he passed you, it was too late. To turn around for a second chance would put you in an almost ineffectual position of moving forward and backward at the same time; you would be in a very unbalanced condition and much worse, with your now limited resources available to you, you would face the bald back of his head and with no place to grab hold. What about "Hermes of the Games" opposite to Kairos? Also son of Zeus and of Maia, daughter of Atlas, "cunning from birth, the first day of his life Hermes invented the lyre, stole Apollo's cattle, impudently denied the theft and was reconciled to his older brother. TL;DR: The response ratios show that Ni, Pb, Zn and Cu have high concentrations and correlate well with Au on the concession, therefore they could serve as pathfinders in search for Au in that geochemical environment.
Abstract: The principle of mobile metal ion geochemistry analysis for soil samples taken from Essase Concession in Nkawkaw of the Eastern Region Ghana, during geochemical survey had accurately and sharply delineated target gold mineralization. Observations suggested that preferentially most metals (Ni, Zn, Pb, Cu, and As) including gold (Au) were located in the top 22 cm of the profile below the interface giving clearly an optimum sampling depth. Using the determined threshold of 3.1 ppm for Au, a broad anomalous zone was delineated with four strong anomalous (> 4.8 ppm) areas within the broad anomalous zone clearly outlined to suggest accurate location of surface or the sub-surface primary mineralization. The strong anomalous areas suggested signatures of structural corridor hosting the gold mineralization which appear to strike in two directions NNE – SSW and NE – SW. Mineralization style was inferred to be structurally controlled. The response ratios show that Ni, Pb, Zn and Cu have high concentrations and correlate well with Au on the concession, therefore they could serve as pathfinders in search for Au in that geochemical environment.
TL;DR: Theoretical considerations and practical examples have shown that somatic medicine too has a psychobiological dimension which is therapeutically significant and may hope that in a not too distant future, somatic Medicine will restorekairos to its old place of honor in the Hippocratic concept of the healing art.
Abstract: 1.
The occurrence of auspicious moments in somatic illness has its somatic basis in the changes of brain function incident to a state of psychological crisis.
2.
The use of the crisis in facilitating auspicious moments is helped by the therapist who is aware of the biographical meaning of the somatic disease. The therapeutic encounter between patient and therapist creates a new psychobiological situation. “The mind is a function of two or more brains, and not the property of one.”12 (David Rioch)
3.
Clinical examples illustrate the practical relevance of the auspicious moment in changing the disease process.
4.
The Rorschach method is a useful device for understanding the general dynamics of specific somatic diseases, and for clarifying their personal form in the individual patient. Sometimes the imagery can be used directly and effectively to point out the auspicious moment.
5.
The wide positive response to Dr. Kelman's13 first article onkairos in 1960 proved that many psychiatrists had become aware that psychotherapy modeled on the laws of inanimate nature is too self-limiting. The sense of crisis in psychiatry facilitates the rediscovery of the old medical concept. I hope that the preceding theoretical considerations and practical examples have shown that somatic medicine too has a psychobiological dimension which is therapeutically significant. We may hope that in a not too distant future, somatic medicine will restorekairos to its old place of honor in the Hippocratic concept of the healing art.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a case where there is a clear-cut parallelism between the delusional experiences of a schizophrenic individual and the emotional life of her family unit, and the reversion of the malignant process ocurred through therapeutic intervention of the family's affective milieu.
Abstract: In the foregoing case there is a clear-cut parallelism between the delusional experiences of a schizophrenic individual and the emotional life of her family unit. The reversion of the malignant process ocurred through the therapeutic intervention of the family's affective milieu. It is beyond the scope of this paper to elaborate about the technique of family therapy, although some of it was conveyed in the presentation. It is worth stressing here, however, that the therapist is never a “neutral observer” but is an active participant in the family life. Through the use of himself, he brings into the familial constellation all the healthy emotions which are often dormant or feared by the members of the family. He recognizes and energizes the positive feelings and also points out the “real conflicts” which almost invariably had been displaced. Thus, his intervention helps to solve the conflicts and to establish a new constructive emotional milieu.
TL;DR: I would like to add a few words about the existentialists' notion of communicating and relating.
Abstract: I would like to add a few words about the existentialists' notion of communicating and relating. They state that being-in-the-world means being with and relating to people and things. They speak of three fundamental categories of existence, namely, being attuned to each other and understanding each other which means letting the other person unfold; being aware of what he potentially could be but also accepting him as he is now; and finally, language, which encompasses silence, sounds, words, gestures and organized speech) This philosophy is open-ended, future-directed SHEINER
