TL;DR: In this article, the authors point out the problem of food waste, its causes and manifestations, and identify possible strategies to combat this phenomenon, including critical literature analysis and meta-analysis with elements of deductive reasoning.
Abstract: The problem of food waste is particularly relevant in the twenty-first century. According to the data from the Food Banks, 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted every year around the world. This represents a third of the total food production. In Europe, there are almost 100 million tonnes and in Poland there are some 9 million tonnes per annum (Food Banks 2016). The data on Europe do not include losses in agriculture and fisheries, which, in fact, make this figure much higher. However, the scale of waste in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia is much lower and there is a chronic problem of malnutrition and even starvation. As reported by UNICEF, malnutrition is the cause of death of over 5 million children annually (UNICEF 2016). It is therefore necessary to develop strategies to effectively combat this phenomenon. Such attempts are taken by the European Union, which pays attention to the problem in the strategy ‘Europe 2020’. In 2011, the European Parliament adopted a resolution ‘How to avoid food waste: a strategy for improving the efficiency of the food chain in the EU’. At the same time a large part of the EU population (including Poles) declare that they are not aware of the situation, do not notice information campaigns and programmes that aim to reduce food waste. Struggle with this twenty-first century problem should therefore start from building attitudes and awareness of individual households and firms engaged in food production and distribution. The purpose of this article is to point to the problem of food waste, its causes and manifestations, and to identify possible strategies to combat this phenomenon. Research methods used in this work include a critical literature analysis and meta-analysis with elements of deductive reasoning based on available literature and reports.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a triumvirate of management roles consisting of the following archetypes: the entrepreneurial, leadership, and managerial roles, to standardise the organization's activities in order to anticipate changes in production processes, services, and environmental variability.
Abstract: The new enterprise development paradigm is currently one of the major challenges facing enterprises. This is connected to the need to analyse the network structures in the organisation through the prism of the triumvirate of management roles consisting of the following archetypes: the entrepreneurial, leadership, and managerial roles. This means the implementation of modern organisational, technological, market, and social innovation solutions. The purpose of process management is to standardise the organisation’s activities in order to anticipate changes in production processes, services, and environmental variability. These processes are currently based on knowledge which can strengthen the financial, organisational, social, technical and technological efficiency of the enterprise. Its theoretical and practical application is included in this article.
TL;DR: Sustainable development is a general direction to create a better world by balancing social, economic and environmental factors as mentioned in this paper, which can meet socio-economic needs and satisfy interests of citizens in a qualitative way, and at the same time significantly reduce the impacts that threaten the environment and natural resources.
Abstract: Sustainable development is oriented towards the development of a model that can meet socio-economic needs and satisfy interests of citizens in a qualitative way, and at the same time significantly reduces the impacts that threaten the environment and natural resources. Sustainable development represents a general direction to create a better world by balancing social, economic and environmental factors. Sustainable development is often related to the protection of the environment, that is, an attempt to connect the survival of life on the planet Earth with the preservation of natural resources and numerous environmental challenges faced by every society, country and humanity as a whole.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a SWOT analysis of Polish agriculture, as well as conclusions and opinions expressed on its basis, concluding that the state of agriculture is improving, but we must eliminate a number of problems that it faces, and enjoy numerous opportunities for development in particular financial resources in the European Union.
Abstract: This study attempts to characterize the current situation and future prospects regarding the agricultural and food sector in Poland. Issues such as the state of Polish agriculture, its development opportunities, the food industry, or the vision of development of the sector in future years have been assessed. The study attempts to define the essence of agricultural and food sector and its importance in the national economy. The paper presents a SWOT analysis of Polish agriculture, as well as conclusions and opinions expressed on its basis. It was found that the state of agriculture is improving, but we must eliminate a number of problems that it faces, as well as enjoy numerous opportunities for development, which are in particular financial resources in the European Union. There has also been a thorough analysis of the companies operating in the food industry, its competitive factors as well as areas for improvement. Future directions of agriculture development have also been defined from a perspective point of view. The forecasts are favourable and include mainly new, global directions for Polish food export, and thus the occurrence of new markets.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess how the European e-justice Portal works in reality, and the hypothesis is that the operation of this portal remains behind expectations, and suggest corrections and improvements are offered.
Abstract: The EU’s current ten-year strategy, Europe 2020, is influenced by the drive for sustainable development and corporate responsibility, i.e. by the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and by increasing digital demand. This has led to the creation of the European e-Justice Portal, which is conceived as an electronic one-stop-shop in the area of justice, and which includes access to business registers at both European and national levels. The available data on CSR and free e-access to such data are intended as a valuable contribution to awareness and transparency, and to assist, at the ultimate stakeholder level, the Europe 2020 triad of priorities. The objective of this paper is to assess how this works in reality, and the hypothesis is that the operation of this Portal remains behind expectations. A cross-disciplinary and multi-jurisdictional study is made using both primary data, especially a field search and direct operation testing, and secondary data, especially well-recognized academic sources, and yields interesting results. A holistic meta-analysis is used to process this data and to explore the CSR definition and framework associated with the Portal, and reveals configurational and operational problems that impair effectiveness, efficiency and fairness. Thus, the hypothesis concerning the problematic operation of the Portal is confirmed, and suggestions for corrections and improvements are offered.
