Abstract: The characteristics of center-driver jet pump which have multi-nozzle were studied in this research. Jet nozzles are connected outside of the bend rather than inserted in the bend in order to transport solid materials or fish without any harm. Jet pumps having one nozzle, two nozzles, four nozzles, and sixteen nozzles were tested in this study. The efficiencies and performances of jet pumps were studied for several nozzles shape, for three different mixing chamber shapes, for two suction area shapes. All the efficiency curves for these cases are presented in this paper.

TL;DR: In this article, the coupled lateral-torsional free and forced vibration of rotors trained by gears is analyzed using finite element method and the complicated variation of the meshing stiffness as a function of contact point along the line of action is estimated correctly.
Abstract: As the speed of rotating machines increases and also their weight decreases, the coupling between lateral and torsional vibrations must be considered. In the past, rotordynamics and geardynamics have tended to treat the lateral and torsional vibrations of the system elements as separate and decoupled mechanisms. In the paper, the coupled lateral-torsional free and forced vibration of rotors trained by gears is analyzed using finite element method. Also the complicated variation of the meshing stiffness as a function of contact point along the line of action is estimated correctly. The gear mesh model is assumed to be linear with constant average mesh stiffness.

Abstract: Fatigue crack propagation rate and threshold characteristics of the SA516/70 steel which is used for the low temperature pressure vessels, were studied in the room temperature of and low temperature ranges of with stress ratio of R=0.1. In the logarithmic relationship between the fatigue crack propagation rate() and stress intensity factor range , the linear relationship was obtained up to in the same of room temperature, but in low temperature case, the relationship was extended to the range of low crack propagation rate. The fractured specimens were examined by SEM. Tested results showed that specimen failed at low temperature exhibit the quasi-cleavage fracture formation however considerable ductility proceed final fracture.

TL;DR: In this paper, the thermal properties of clinker such as thermal conductivity, specific heat, density and void fraction were measured for the heat transfer reduction due to the clinker formed in the furnace of the thermal power plant.
Abstract: This study was conducted for the heat transfer reduction due to the clinker formed in the furnace of the thermal power plant. The thermal properties of clinker such as thermal conductivity, specific heat, density and void fraction were measured. The thermal conductivities of the clinker were ranged and the average specific heat and the void fraction were and 0.36 respectively. The thermal resistance of clinker was the greatest among the thermal resistances. It was found that the clinker reduces more than 90% of the heat transfer if the clinker is thicker than 10 cm.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare the results of LES with those of PIV measurement and Reynolds averaging models and conclude that LES predicts flow behavior better than Reynolds averaging model.
Abstract: The turbulent flow with wake, reattachment and recirculation flow is very important from the viewpoint of engineering. But that is still difficult because of especially the unsteady problems which are related with the vehicle dynamics and the aerodynamics noise. This paper evaluate LES that can analyze about all fluid flow region including the laminar, transition and turbulent. So we compare the results of LES with those of PIV measurement and Reynolds averaging models. In conclusion, LES predicts flow behavior better than Reynolds averaging models.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the statistical size effect of the average effect on the material properties and found that the autocorrelation function of the material property is almost independent of the averaging length.
Abstract: Some engineering materials are often known to have considerable spatial variation in their resisting strength and other properties. The objective of this study is to investigate the averaging effect and the applicability of extremal statistic for the statistical size effect. In the present study, it is assumed that the material property is a stationary random process in space. The theoretical autocorrelation function of the material strength are discussed for several correlation lengths. And, in order to investigate the statistical size effect, the material properties was simulated by using the non-Gaussian random process method. The material properties were plotted on the Weibull probability papers. The main results are summarized as follows: The autocorrelation function of the material properties are almost independent of the averaging length. The variance decreases with increasing the averaging length. As correlation length is smaller, the slope is larger. And also, it was found that Weibull statistics based on the weakest-link model could not explain the spatial variation of material properties with respect to the size effect satisfactory.
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for position control of a pneumatic cylinder using a linearized controller is proposed and simulation results show that this method is appropriate for the control object.
Abstract: A method for the position control of a pneumatic cylinder using a linearized controller is proposed. Pneumatic cylinder has highly nonlinear characteristics and modelling of the system has been difficult. Compliance of the pneumatic cylinder is materially changed according to the operating position. So, in the case that fixed gain controller obtained by a linearized model at a specified position is used, response of the cylinder should be changed according to the operating position. In order to get a designed results regardless of operating positions, a controller for compensation of the nonlinear characteristic with a linearlization compensator is designed and simulation results show that this method is appropriate for the control object.
