Abstract: This paper condenses part of an ongoing investigation to integrate various techniques for the design and implementation of backfill placement in mined stopes. It consists of the practical methods for cyclic and delayed placement of a variety of backfill constituents such as rockfill, hydraulic fill, cemented fill, paste fill, and ice fill under different underground mining conditions. Discussion is also made on mechanics of placed backfill, solids losses, arching effects, fill consolidation or shrinkage, liquefaction, placement problems and suggestions to solve the problems. 11 refs., 12 figs., 1 tab.
