Abstract: A partir de uma analise do potencial da zona costeira brasileira, Bertha Becker descreve as origens do processo turistico no Brasil e desenvolve um breve historico de seu desenvolvimento. O texto tambem narra o surgimento das instituicoes responsaveis pela promocao da atividade turistica no pais.

Abstract: A atividade turistica apresenta um carater hibrido, ao mesmo tempo que pode contribuir para minimizar as desigualdades sociais e regionais, pode trazer degradacao ambiental aliada ao agravamento das injusticas sociais. E o que nos mostra Colin Michael Hall, professor da Universidade de Otago, da Nova Zelândia, em seu livro "Planejamento Turistico - politicas, processos e relacionamentos", lancado em 2001 pela Editora Contexto.

Abstract: This paper summarizes the work of a group of research about local economy in the area of tourism and relates the main results to the Sitologie. This theory broaches the failures of the economic conceptions which don’t respect the complexity, the diversity and the contingencies of the local actors. It is related to a consistent economic change of a territory and presumes the common sense shared by local actors. The paper also presents the new trends of tourism from the beliefs of the local actors, tourism professionals and tourists, and explains the causes of the decline in mass tourism, as well as, variables that motivate the emerging demand towards new models and tourism products. These new models pave the way for a change of paradigm in the development of tourism from the Sitologie. The author presents the foundations for the development of tourism from the Sitologie, which associates nature, culture and an economy that respects the diversity of our world.
