Abstract: An international interlaboratory comparison for numerical calculations of head phantom SAR involving three mobile phones with computer-aided design-based models has been conducted in order to evaluate the repeatability of such calculations and for providing input in the development of standardized procedures. SAR in the standardized specific anthropomorphic mannequin (SAM) head phantom was calculated by ten laboratories in a blind study manner. The agreement in calculated SAR between the participating laboratories is very similar to the agreement obtained in interlaboratory comparisons involving SAR measurements. The results support the opinion that standardized procedures for numerical calculations of SAR can be developed. The agreement between calculated SAR results and corresponding measurement results ranges from good to poor for the three phone models. Most probably, a significant reason for the observed deviations is the simplifications made to the models, which implies that device modeling specifications are of utmost importance in standards.

Abstract: Simulation of the electromagnetic response of the human body relies upon efficient computational models. The objective of this paper is to describe a new platform-independent and computationally-efficient full-body electromagnetic model, the Visible Human Project® (VHP)-Female v.3.0 and to outline its distinct features. We also report model performance results using two leading commercial electromagnetic antenna simulation packages: ANSYS HFSS and CST MICROWAVE STUDIO®.

Abstract: The efficient computation of large eddy-current problems with finite elements requires adaptive methods and fast optimal iterative solvers such as multigrid methods. This paper provides an overview of the most important implementation aspects of an adaptive multigrid scheme for time-harmonic eddy currents. Numerical experiments show that the standard multigrid scheme can be modified to yield an O(N) complexity even for general adaptive refinement strategies, where the number of unknowns N can grow slowly from one to the next refinement level. Algorithmic details and numerical examples are given.

Abstract: This article reports several results on sparsity optimized basis functions for hp-FEM on triangular and tetrahedral finite element meshes obtained within the Special Research Program “Numerical and Symbolic Scientific Computing” and within the Doctoral Program “Computational Mathematics” both supported by the Austrian Science Fund FWF under the grants SFB F013 and DK W1214, respectively. We give an overview on the sparsity pattern for mass and stiffness matrix in the spaces L 2, H 1, H({ div}) and H(curl). The construction relies on a tensor-product based construction with properly weighted Jacobi polynomials.
