The electrical conduction mechanisms of semicrystalline thermoplastic parylene C (-H(2)C-C(6)H(3)Cl-CH(2)-)(n) thin films were studied in large temperature and frequency regions. The alternative current (AC) electrical conduction in parylene C is governed by two processes which can be ascribed to a hopping transport mechanism: correlated barrier hopping (CBH) model at low [77-155 K] and high [473-533 K] temperature and the small polaron tunneling mechanism (SPTM) from 193 to 413 K within the framework of the universal law of dielectric response. The conduction mechanism is explained with the help of Elliot's theory, and the Elliot's parameters are determined. From frequency- and temperature-conductivity characteristics, the activation energy is found to be 1.27 eV for direct current (DC) conduction interpreted in terms of ionic conduction mechanism. The power law dependence of AC conductivity is interpreted in terms of electron hopping with a density N(E(F)) (~10(18) eV cm(-3)) over a 0.023-0.03 eV high barrier across a distance of 1.46-1.54 A.

Single crystals of the relatively new nonlinear optical material l-asparagine monohydrate have been successfully grown by the slow evaporation solution growth technique at room temperature in aqueous solution. The crystal system
of the title material has been confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction. The crystalline perfection of the as-grown and annealed crystals has been evaluated by high-resolution X-ray diffraction. The as-grown single crystals (particularly when their size is large) were found to contain internal structural grain boundaries, and the crystalline perfection of these crystals was found to be
improved substantially by annealing at low temperatures. The crystalline perfection and the measured physical properties were found to be correlated such that the second harmonic generation efficiency, optical transparency,
fluorescence and dielectric properties are enhanced as the crystal quality improves.

The AC conductivity and dielectric properties of MnTPPCl sandwich structure as Au/MnTPPCl/Au were studied. The conductivity of the MnTPPCl thin films have been interpreted by the correlated barrier hopping (CBH) model. The dominant conduction process have found to be the single polaron hopping conduction. The values of the hopping distance, Rω, barrier height, W, and the localized-state density, N, are estimated at different frequencies. The behavior of dielectric constant and dielectric loss was discussed as a function of temperature and frequency. The dielectric constant was described in terms of polarization mechanism in materials. The spectral behavior of dielectric loss is interpreted on the basis of the Giuntini et al. model [1]. The value of WM is obtained as 0.32 eV. A non-Debye relaxation phenomenon was observed from the dielectric relaxation mechanism.

Electrical conduction mechanism and dielectric characterization of MnTPPCl thin films

Adverse biological activities of Schiff base (SB) derivatives are well known. In this study, the ligand and its metal complexes have been synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H-NMR spectra, elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility, UV-Vis spectra, and thermogravimetry/differential thermal analysis. From the elemental analyses data, the complexes were proposed to have the general formula [Mn(L)2(H2O)2], [Co(L)2(H2O)2], and [Ni2(L)(H2O)4(Cl)3]. From the magnetic moment and UV-Vis spectra data, it was found that the geometrical structures of these complexes are octahedral. In the in vivo experiment, adult male rats were injected subcutaneously with a new SB (L) and its [Mn(L)2(H2O)2], [Co(L)2(H2O)2], and [Ni2(L)(H2O)4(Cl)3] complexes (25 mg/kg body weight) and were then sacrificed 16 days later. In this study, the ligands of bis(2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole) (L1), bis(2-amino-1,3,4- thiadiazolyl)methane (L2) and bis(2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazolyl)benzene (L3) have been synthesized via the reactions of oxalic acid (1a), malonic acid (1b) and terephthalic acid (1c) with thiosemicarbazide. The structures of (L1), (L2) and (L3) compounds have been elucidated, by elemental and spectroscopic analyses. Then, novel new Co (II) complexes of (L1), (L2) and (L3) have been synthesized; and the structures of these complexes have been determined by elemental analysis, spectrometric and TGA/DTA methods and magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity measurements. Coordination numbers of dimeric, L1Co and L2Co complexes and monomeric L3Co complex are found to be six.
